Subject: OK...I'm going to post something here that I can't post on Facebook...

I don't even check this page as often as I used to...when I was checking it, I wasn't posting just because it's too hard to keep up and respond to one post and not another. So...I really don't expect any responses here, I just am sort of talking this through...

I had a regular screening mammogram last Friday. I'm 40, but I started having them at 35 because my sister had BC. I got a call on Monday saying they found a "density" on my right breast. Could be nothing, maybe just the way the skin was folded or some such thing. They wanted me to come back for a diagnostic mammogram and an ultrasound. So, I made the appt...earliest available was 9/30.

Tuesday morning I woke up thinking about it and decided I needed to try to get this done sooner than 9/30 or I was going to drive myself bonkers...I knew it was almost certainly nothing, but just having that crap in the back of your mind isn't cool. So, I called at 8:00 that morning and they were like, "can you be here at 9:00?" You betcha!

So, the mammogram technician said they couldn't really tell anything on the diagnostic mammogram, but the doc wanted me to go ahead and get the ultrasound just to be sure. The ultrasound showed a lump...very small, just 8mm (pearl-sized). So, the next step is a biopsy.

I still know it is almost certainly nothing (80% of breast biopsies are benign)...but would like to have it over with. Anyway, next available appointment was Monday 10/4. So, here's hoping the next 10 days go very quickly!

I'm honestly not terribly worried...just horribly impatient!

How scary! Hang in there and think positive thoughts till 10/4. I will be away in PA then but will try to check in with renewed good thoughts and prayers that shall commence immediately!!!!!!!!!
I have a lump in my left breast that I have had them check and they assured me with only a regular mamo that it's nothing but that was months ago and I am still not comfortable with it. I'm going to go again when I get back from my trip...

If you aren't comfortable with it, definitely get a second opinion. Always listen to your gut about your own body!! I'm sure it's nothing, but I'm sure you would feel much better knowing that confidently.

Not to be too scary, but stepmom would have never been diagnosed as early as she was if she hadn't been persistent. The docs kept telling her that her pain was residual pain from a ski injury a few months prior. She knew that it wasn't and she didn't let them stop testing until they figured it out. I'm confident that her persistence gained her 3 years she wouldn't have otherwise had.

[> The wait is half over! -- Ruth, 14:53:20 09/28/10 Tue [1] (NoHost/216.84.103.130)

I scheduled the appointment six days ago and there are six days until the procedure.

I got a call from the breast center yesterday to sort of walk me through the procedure. Seems pretty straightforward. They're going to do an ultrasound guided core needle biopsy. The worst part is I can't mow or vacuum for 24 hours after. Come on! Can't I get a week...or at least 72 hours?

Anyway, should have the results in 2-4 business days afterward (Wed-Fri of next week.)
