Hey Billy,
Like you I've used food dyes etc in past but the messy factor always put me off. I stopped of at 'Mikes tackle' in Portobello and came accross some Wychwood bait dyes in various colours.....I chose red 'cause of the obvious predator attractant value.

I've realised that the Pike at Edgelaw seem to prefer dyed baits to non, as last year I baited one rod with un-coloured baits and the other coloured and over 10-12 sessions I came to the conclusion that they prefered the coloured baits. I dunno if this is just fluke or if it really is a preferance but you can never ignore evidene like this !
