 Twisted Space - The Pern and Fantasy RPG What if Aivas's plan hadn't worked? Though theorized on many times, this is just a small part of Twist's universe. The Red Star returns to Pern for another two Passes. A few turns before the twelfth Pass, Twist's true history starts with the question, What if Pern ran out of firestone? This is one answer. The dragons of Pern and many of their cousins, the whers and the fire-lizards, embark on a journey to get rid of the Red Star. They planned to move the Red Star not only out of orbit, but close enough that the sun would pull it in and destroy it for them. During the journey between, a young queen received an image of such clarity that she could only think it was their destination and quickly passed it to the other dragons. They came out near a sun, but it was not Rukbat, and it was not anywhere near Pern. With oxygen failing and many dead or lost between the young queen Xalinth received another image, and despairing, the other dragons, whers, and fire-lizards followed her. They came out into sunlight, reduced to less than two percent of their original number. They came out on Zefna, a planet long ago colonized and lost to time by other humans. A planet that had altered the humans and their animals. A planet on which there was a war between remnants of Zefna's race of humans, encouraged by the Nalicarn, creatures that wish only the ultimate destruction of all humans on Zefna. Watching over the war are the mysterious Velsin, giant intelligent felines with wings, who appeared to the queen Xalinth later to give her hope and choices. With them a representative of the Phantoms, humans with powerful mental abilities, also met the queen, and the Nalicarn watched and planed. Xalinth flew, and when it became clear that the Pernese would not have enough people to Impress the dragonets, she brought the two races together. With the help of the young Phantom Ezaric, and the unlooked-for assistance of the power-hungry Nalicarn, young Zefnal arrived at the weyr, and Impressed. But with three factions in the ranks of the weyrlingsÐ disgruntled wherhandlers whose youth were bullied into standing, Melain Zefnal in an unfamiliar world, and the NalicarnÕs own representatives with plans of their own for these glorious animals Ð no one is quite sure what is to come of the young dragonets, their riders, and the rest of the planet.
