Subject: JANUARY HERRIING FISHING

Way back in the 1950's during the month of January dad would take me night herring fishing from one of the bridges along the Meadowbrook parkway near Jones beack. Back then you could park on the parkway without fear of a ticket.
Mom always made sure we had two big thermos bottles full of hot tea. With some of the fish we caught she would always make these things called Roll Mops, The rest of the fish got cut into 2 inch squares to make svetch, something she learned from a Norwegian woman who lived on our street.

On our way home after fishing dad would always stop at White Castle which was an added bonus. After 60 years I still miss those trips.
