LIFE IN GENERAL
EPISODE 2.5: THE ODDITY
SCENE ONE: SAM AND HELEN OF TROY ARE STARING OUT THE WINDOW IN THE TOWER WHERE THEY’RE BEING HELD. THE REST OF THE GROUP IS SAILING TOWARD THE ISLAND IN SHIPS TRAVELING IN A V FORMATION. ELIJAH AND ELLIE ARE STANDING IN THE FRONT OF THE SHIP. ELIJAH IS HOLDING HER AS THEY STARE AT THE COAST LINE.
ELIJAH
I wish you would have stayed back with Penelope where it’s safe
ELLIE
...And leave you alone with those three? I don’t think so. Besides, you’ve been helping me brush up my powers...
ELIJAH
...But you’re still learning...I’M still learning
ELLIE
Don’t worry, we’ll be fine
ELIJAH
There’s one other thing I wanted to ask you...
ELLIE

...It’s a city with lots of gambling and bars. Anyway, he and I got really drunk and woke up married

To be honest, I have no idea. I barely remember anything that happened that night
ELLIE SMILED

Sam woke up in bed with Richard
ELIJAH
Say what?! You guys must have REALLY been drunk
ELLIE

THEY LAUGHED. ELIJAH KISSED ELLIE’S HEAD AS THEY APPROACHED THE ISLAND. SCENE FLIPS TO RICHARD TALKING TO ASHE AND ALEC. ASHE IS HOLDING SEVERAL MAPS AND BUILDING DESIGNS. SOME ARE STILL ROLLED UP IN HIS HAND. HE IS LEANING OVER ONE AND POINTING OUT SEVERAL THINGS TO ALEC

I have an idea...we’ll build a giant giraffe
ASHE AND ALEC LOOK AT EACH OTHER. ALEC POLITELY TAKES ONE OF THE ROLLED UP MAPS FROM ASHE’S HAND AND THEN SMACKS RICHARD OVER THE HEAD WITH IT.
RICHARD
Or we could do it your way...
ASHE
How close are we?
ALEC
We should be ready within the hour
ASHE
Good. I’ll be in my room.
SCENE TWO: ASHE’S ROOM. HE IS LAYING ON HIS BED STARING AT A HAND PAINTED PICTURE OF PENELOPE WITH LONGING. THERE IS A KNOCK AT THE DOOR.
ASHE
Come in...
ELLIE ENTERS. ASHE SITS UP AND LAYS THE PICTURE DOWN
ASHE
Hey, what’s up?
ELLIE
I just thought I’d come and see how you’re holding up
SHE SITS DOWN ON THE BED NEXT TO HIM
ASHE
What do you mean?
ASHE TRIED TO COVER THE PICTURE. ELLIE SMILED AND PICKED THE PICTURE UP AND HELD IT IN FRONT OF ASHE.
ELLIE
I think you know exactly what I mean
ASHE

ASHE TAKES THE PICTURE FROM ELLIE AND STARES AT IT AGAIN
ELLIE
I don’t think I’ve ever seen you this happy
ASHE
I’ve never been this happy...
ASHE SIGHED AND FELL BACK ON THE BED. ELLIE SHIFTED SO SHE COULD LOOK AT HIM

ELLIE

ASHE

SHE SMILED AT ASHE WHO SMILED BACK AND GAVE HER A PLAYFUL SHOVE

ASHE LOOKED AT HIS PICTURE OF PENELOPE AGAIN. ELLIE RUBBED HIS LEG

Come on, we’d better get on deck
ELLIE STOOD UP AND HEADED FOR THE DOOR. ASHE NODDED BUT CONTINUED TO STARE AT PENELOPE’S PICTURE. HE THEN STOOD UP AND FOLLOWED ELLIE OUT THE DOOR. THE REST OF THE CREW WAS READY AND WAITING FOR ASHE’S ORDERS.
ASHE
Alright Men, this is what we’re going to do...
SCENE THREE: THE WOODEN HORSE HAD BEEN TAKEN INSIDE THE TORJEN’S FORTRESS. THE GREEK SHIPS HAD TURNED AWAY AND LEFT. THE GROUP WAITS INSIDE THE HORSE WITH THOUSANDS OF GREEK SOLDIERS. RICHARD IS PLAYING GAMEBOY WITH THE SOUND ON.
ASHE
Richard, turn that off!
RICHARD
Not yet, I’m about to break a record
ASHE
Richard, put that away before someone hears
RICHARD
Relax, Ashe, no one is going to hear it
ALEC
That’s right...
ALEC TAKES THE GAMEBOY FROM RICHARD’S HANDS
RICHARD

ALEC HOLDS THE GAMEBOY UP IN FRONT OF HIM, DISPLAYING IT FOR RICHARD. HE THEN GRIPS IT IN BOTH HANDS AND BREAKS IT. RICHARD STARES AT HIM HORRIFIED
ELIJAH
What’s with him?
ELLIE
The antisipation is getting to him
ALEC
Ellie, why did you come? This is a war. There’s going to be fighting and blood, and more fighting, and more blood....
ELLIE

ALEC

HE HEARS THE BLEEPS COMING FROM THE GAMEBOY AGAIN. HE LOOKS OVER AT RICHARD WHO HAD REWIRED THE GAMEBOY AND WAS PLAYING AGAIN
ASHE
Richard! Give me that!
ASHE GRABBED THE GAMEBOY FROM RICHARD, PULLED OUT HIS DAGGER AND BEGAN STABBING IT REPEATEDLY
ELLIE
Ashe, stop...it’s dead
ASHE STOPPED AND TRIED TO CALM DOWN. RICHARD SEEMED TO HAVE TROUBLE SITTING STILL
RICHARD
I don’t like it in here. There aren’t any jeeps. I’m going outside
HE STARTS TO REMOVE THE TRAP DOOR WHEN ASHE AND ALEC GRABBED HIM.
ASHE
Richard, do NOT open that door until I say so...you got that?!
RICHARD GAVE HIM A BLANK STARE

SCENE CUTS TO SAM AND HELEN’S VIEW OF THE HORSE. SHE WATCHES AS THE HORSE BEGINS TO ROCK. SAM’S EYES WIDEN

HELEN

SAM
Friend is such a strong word...
HELEN
They’ve come to rescue us...

Trust me, what they’re about to do cannot be called rescueing

THEY WATCH AS THE ARMY BEGINS TO EXIT OUT OF THE HORSE. SLOWLY THE TROJAN ARMY WAKES UP AND RUSHES TO FIGHT THE GREEKS. ELIJAH WAVED HIS ARM AND A CRESENT SHAPED BEAM OF LIGHT ERUPTED FROM HIS ARM AND KILLED SEVERAL TROJAN SOLDIERS IN FRONT OF HIM. HE SEEMED TO BE ENJOYING THE THRILL. ELLIE WAS USING ENERGY BLASTS TO TAKE OUT SOLDIERS ONE BY ONE. ASHE AND ALEC WERE BATTLING SOLDIERS WITH SWORDS. ONE SOLDIER ATTACKED ASHE WHILE HE WAS PINNED TO THE GROUND BY ANOTHER. ELIJAH SHOT AN ENERGY BLAST AT THE SOLDIER AND HE FLEW BACKWARDS. ASHE LOOKED AT ELIJAH FOR A MOMENT, THEN THREW THE SOLDIER OFF HIM AND STABBED HIM.
THE GREEK ARMY HAD KILLED ALL OF THE TROJANS AND WERE STANDING AROUND LOOKING FOR SURVIVORS. RICHARD CLIMBS TO THE TOP OF A BUILDING WITH A ANIMAL HORN. HE TAKES A DEEP BREATH AND BLOWS IN IT. THE SOUND OF THE HORN ECHOES THROUGHOUT THE AREA. ASHE AND ALEC GLARE AT RICHARD. ALEC HOLDS HIS SWORD LIKE A SPEAR

Stand back, Ashe, I’m gonna impale him
ASHE
No, no...
ASHE GRIPS HIS SWORD
ASHE
This, I’m gonna do myself
ELLIE
Ashe, don’t. You don’t want to return to Penelope with a guilty conscience
ASHE
Who says I’ll feel guilty?
ELIJAH
Alec, aren’t you forgetting about someone?
ALEC LOOKED AT ELIJAH WITH A CONFUSED EXPRESSION. IN THE DISTANCE WE HEAR SAM YELLING
SAM
...I’m waiting!
ALEC’S EYES WIDEN AND HE RUNS OFF TOWARD THE TOWER
ELIJAH
Do you think she’ll finally go back to him?
ELLIE
Hard to say
ASHE SHUDDERS
ASHE
Can we change the subject?
SCENE FLIPS TO SAM AND HELEN IN THE TOWER. ALEC KICKS THE DOOR OPEN. SAM AND HELEN LOOK STUNNED
HELEN
Wow...That was impressive
SAM
Oh please, once he gets hooked on his macho tricks, he becomes so stuck on himself, and-
SHE IS CUT OFF BY ALEC TAKING HER IN HIS ARMS AND DIPPING HER
SAM
...What the hell?!
ALEC
Never fear, Samantha, I am here to rescue you...
SAM
I thought I told you never to call me that agai-
SHE IS CUT OFF BY ALEC KISSING HER. HELEN SMILES AND LEAVES THE TOWER. SAM SLOWLY OPENS HER EYES AS ALEC RETURNS SAM TO HER FEET.
SAM
Are they in a hurry to leave?
ALEC
I don’t think so...they still have to round up survivors
SAM GIVES A HALF SMILE
SAM
...plenty of time...
ALEC SMILES AND THE SCENE CUTS BACK TO THE REST OF THE GROUP OUTSIDE. HELEN WALKS TO THEM CALMLY
ASHE
Helen, where is Sam?
HELEN
She’s...um...rewarding her rescuer
ELLIE AND ELIJAH SMILE AND LOOK AT EACH OTHER. ASHE SHUDDERS.
ELIJAH
Guess that answers that question
ASHE
That’s just sick
ELLIE
Oh come on Ashe, you have to admit that they’re perfect for each other
ASHE
I’ll do no such thing
ELIJAH
I guess this means that everyone is willing to stay in this period now
RICHARD

ELIJAH LEANS BY ASHE’S EAR
ELIJAH

Why are you whispering? You can say it to his face, half the time he doesn’t understand people talk anyway
ELLIE
...So are we ready to head back to Greece?
ASHE
Absolutely
SCENE FOUR: THE GROUP RETURNS TO GREECE. ASHE’S SERVANTS GREET HIM AS HE ENTERS.
SERVANT
Odysseus, it is so wonderful to see you return to us safe and sound
ASHE
We would have been back sooner if SOMEONE hadden’t thrown all the maps in the ocean
ASHE GLARES AT RICHARD
RICHARD
They were dirty. I was TRYING to wash them...
ELIJAH
You threw them in the ocean! How were you going to get them back?
RICHARD ROLLS HIS EYES
RICHARD
Did you not see the plank I made?
ALEC
I saw it...but SOMEONE wouldn’t let me make good use of it
ALEC GLARED AT ELLIE
ELLIE
Oh right, like I was really going to let you make Richard walk the plank
ALEC
You know, Ellie, you’re getting to be a real kill joy
SAM
Ellie, you have to admit that seeing Richard walk the plank would have been funny
ELLIE
Would you have brought him back on board?
SAM

ELLIE GIVES HER A LOOK

ELLIE CONTINUES TO GIVE HER THE LOOK

ASHE NODDS TO HIM

Yes, and see that my friends’ rooms are prepared as well
THE SERVANT BOWS

I shall inform Penelope that you have arrived

That is not necessary, I’ll inform her personally
SERVANT
But Odysseus, she...she’s sleeping...
ASHE
Perfect. I can suprise her even better that way...
ASHE STARTS TO WALK IN THE DIRECTION OF HIS ROOM. THE SERVANT FRANTICALLY CHASES AFTER HIM
SERVANT
...She...she asked not to be disterbed...
ASHE
I think she’ll make an acception
ASHE REACHES THE DOOR TO HIS ROOM. THE SERVANT CONTINUES TO PLEAD WITH HIM
SERVANT
Odysseus, I beg you not to disterb her. She gave orders not to have any interruptions
ASHE
Not to worry, I’m sure she’ll be surpised and delighted to see me. Now go tend to my friends
SERVANT
...Oh she’ll be surprised, no doubt
THE SERVANT LEAVES. ASHE WATCHES HIM CURIOUSLY THEN SHRUGS AND OPENS THE DOOR. HE STEPPED IN HAPPILY.

Penelope, Honey, I’m-
HE FROZE. ASHE STARED AT JASON ON TOP OF PENELOPE IN HIS BED. THERE WAS A COVER THAT REACHED JUST ABOVE HIS WASTE. THEY BOTH TURNED TO LOOK AT ASHE WHO HAD A HORRIFIED EXPRESSION ON HIS FACE.
PENELOPE
Ashley!...
ASHE
No, I’m sorry, I interrupted...please, finish
ASHE STORMED OUT THE DOOR. HE SLAMMED THE DOOR SO HARD THAT IT BROKE. HE PLACED HIS HANDS ON THE WALL AND AND RESTED HIS HEAD ON IT TRYING NOT TO CRY. ELLIE CAME RUNNING DOWN THE HALL, THE OTHERS NOT FAR BEHIND

Ashe, we heard a crash, what happened?
ELLIE LOOKED AT HIS FACE. SHE TOUCHED HIS BACK GENTLY AND TRIED TO MAKE EYE CONTACT WITH HIM.
ELLIE
Ashe, what’s wrong?
THE DOOR FELL OPEN AND PENELOPE AND JASON STOOD THERE. JASON HAD HIS PANTS BACK ON AND PENELOPE HAD THE BED SHEET WRAPPED AROUND HER. ASHE DIDN’T TURN. THE GROUP STARED AT JASON AND PENELOPE IN SHOCK.
ELIJAH
...Well, that explains a lot
SAM GLARED AT JASON. ELLIE TRIED TO HUG AND COMFORT ASHE, BUT HE PUSHED HER AWAY AND FACED JASON

She needed a REAL man...

...And you’re supposed to be it?
ALEC
...You sing in a band...badly

I was there for Penelope. He ran out on her...twice
ELLIE

JASON SHOVED ASHE BACK AGAINST THE WALL. ASHE SMACKED THE WALL AND GLARED AT JASON FOR A SECOND BEFORE GRABBING HIM AND SLAMMING HIM AGAINST THE WALL. ASHE CONTINUED TO STARE DOWN JASON.

Sam, Ashe is about to totally flip out on Jason...shouldn’t you say something?
ASHE HEARD ELLIE’S COMMENT AND LOOKED OVER HIS SHOULDER AT SAM. SAM LOOKED AT JASON, THEN AT ASHE.

ASHE RETURNED HIS GLARE TO JASON. THE GROUP LOOKED AT EACH OTHER AND TOOK A STEP BACK.
PENELOPE
No, don’t!
ASHE TURNED TO LOOK AT PENELOPE

You said you loved me...you said you’d wait.
PENELOPE DIDN’T ANSWER
ASHE
I hate being lied to...
ASHE GLANCED AT JASON THEN LOOKED AT ELLIE

...I think I’ve found someone I hate more than Richard
RICHARD HAD A HORRIFIED LOOK ON HIS FACE

ELLIE HAD A WORRIED LOOK ON HER FACE AS ELIJAH HELD HER CLOSE

This isn’t going to be pretty...
CAMERA CLOSES ON ASHE’S GLARE. SCENE CUTS TO OUTSIDE THE BUILDING. WE HEAR JASON SCREAMING IN PAIN.
SCENE FIVE: ELLIE, ELIJAH, SAM, ALEC AND RICHARD ARE WALKING DOWN THE HALL. THEY HAVE STUNNED EXPRESSIONS ON THEIR FACES. RICHARD IS DOING SOME KARATE MOVES AS THEY WALK DOWN THE HALL

That was so cool. ‘My name is Ashe’ BAM!
ELLIE
I’m worried about him
ALEC
...I don’t think Ashe is the one you need to be worried about
ELIJAH
...Yeah, he wasn’t the one getting pulverized
SAM
Who would’ve thought that pathetic little Ashe could do so much damage
ELLIE
That’s why I’m worried. I’ve never seen him like that
ELIJAH
Anger can be a powerful motivation...
ELLIE
Anger wasn’t what I saw when I looked in his eyes...it was pain. Severe pain...like something inside him was torn. Somebody should talk to him...
THEY ALL LOOKED AT ELLIE. ELLIE ROLLED HER EYES

SCENE CUTS TO THE GARDEN. ASHE IS SITTING ON A HILL THAT OVER LOOKS THE TOWN. HE HAS A FLOWER IN HIS HAND AND HIS HEAD DOWN. ELLIE WALKED UP BEHIND HIM AND QUIETLY SAT DOWN NEXT TO HIM. ASHE DIDN’T MOVE.
ELLIE
That’s a pretty flower
ASHE LOOKED AT THE FLOWER IN HIS HAND.
ELLIE
You really scared us back there...I’ve never seen you so...so...
ASHE
Vengeful?
ELLIE
...Torn
ASHE LOOKED AT ELLIE.
ELLIE
...Do you want to leave?
ASHE
I just want to end the pain...I loved her...
ELLIE
I know you did.
ELLIE HELD HIS ARM AND LEANED ON HIS SHOULDER
ELLIE
Promise me you won’t do anything foolish...I’m worried about you
ASHE STARED AT THE FLOWER IN HIS HAND AND HANDED TO ELLIE. ELLIE TOOK IT AND LOOKED UP AT ASHE CURIOUSLY

ELLIE SMILED AT HIM AND SLOWLY GOT TO HER FEET
ELLIE
I’ll leave you alone for a while...

ELLIE NODDED AND TURNED TO LEAVE.

ELLIE STOPPED AND TURNED TO LOOK AT ASHE

It was just you that was scared wasn’t it?
ELLIE

ASHE
...But you’re the only one who was worried about me, weren’t you?
ELLIE
...the others were worried that you were going to kill Jason. Except Richard. He’s acting like you’re some sort of Superman
ASHE FORCED A HALF SMILE

ELLIE SMILED AND KNELT DOWN TO GIVE HIM A HUG. ASHE HELD HER TIGHT
ELLIE

HE LET GO AND ELLIE GAVE HIM ONE LAST LOOK, THEN HEADED BACK. ASHE RETURNED HIS GAZE TO THE TOWN AS SHE LEFT.
