The first time I read these books, I had to take a break between 'Pawn' and 'RC' too- I took a break of about a month actually, because I was emotionally exhausted by 'Pawn'. I was so upset by the chess scene that I put the book down and walked around the house several times to calm down. But that's certainly the mark of a great book though! 'RC' I always find a little hard, but it contains the 'anvil' moment...which you'll just have to read the whole book to know what that means. ;)
