WELCOME TO THE ILLINOIS MISS AND TEEN PAGEANT BOARD

All Pageant Systems that are in Illinois that have Teen, Miss, Ms or Mrs age divisions are welcome here!

PLEASE BE NICE!

This board has a modified moderation. I will try my best.
Please contact me if there is something you do not like and I will try to accommodate all requests.

However, there are a few simple rules:
1. Do not post to your own posts as though you are trying to be someone else...whether it is to try to protect yourself, promote yourself or be negative.
2. Do not bash others or contestants!
3. If you are posting negative posts about an organization, be prepared to provide proof, not just speculations.

If you do not follow these simple rules, you will be banned. If you continue to "fight" the banning by creating other isp addresses and are caught, you will be banned from viewing this page as well as posting. If you do not provide the proof of negative postings, you will be asked once to provide it. If you do not, you will be banned.

I am trying to have this board to provide information, civil conversations, photos (please do not "steal" photos and please no "demeaning, lewd, illicit or otherwise nasty" photos), pageant results and otherwise fun postings from those of us that LOVE the good that comes from pageantry! Please be nice!!!!

Happy New Year and let's make 2011 the best one yet!

Thank you!

Every one acknowledges that our life is high priced, nevertheless different people need cash for various things and not every person earns big sums money. So to receive quick credit loans or just consolidation loans will be good solution.

Teen With Rare Muscle Disorder Follows Dreams To Pageant

Author:
IN THE NEWS
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 16:18:46 08/31/11 Wed

Devin Davis tries not to let anything get in the way of her dreams — least of all, her wheelchair. The 19-year-old Elmhurst woman is a state finalist in the National American Miss Illinois state pageant, which will be held this weekend at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles. She’s also an aspiring actress and model who has engineered meetings with many of her favorite celebrities — Justin Bieber, the Jonas Brothers, the Black Eyed Peas — not to promote herself, but to slip them a DVD she created to raise awareness about rare muscle diseases. “I want to be a role model for others like myself,” Davis said, “to show them no matter what you situation is, you can and should still dream big.” Davis was diagnosed as a baby with mitochondrial myopathy, a progressive disorder with no cure or treatment. Damage to the mitochondria — the “power plants” inside cells — wreaks havoc on the muscles, the brain, the respiratory system. As a child, she was in and out of the intensive care unit at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. At one point, her doctors didn’t think she’d live past the age of 5. “I can’t tell how many times the pastor said we’re going to say our last goodbyes, and she keeps coming back,” said her mother, Dawn Davis. As a preteen, Devin had risky surgery for scoliosis that successfully reduced the curve of her spine from 70 percent to 20 percent. Yet, despite her health challenges, Davis graduated from York Community High School in Elmhurst and the Illinois Center of Broadcasting, was signed by a talent agency (she has received scripts for “CSI” and ”Melissa & Joey”), and worked so many hours as a volunteer at Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare that she received the city’s Character Counts Award. Then last spring, while she was hospitalized for pneumonia, her doctors dropped a bombshell. A recent biopsy and better diagnostic tools led to a new diagnosis, still extremely rare, affecting 1 in 500,000 people, and with an even more difficult name: familial limb girdle myasthenia syndrome DOK7. In simplest terms, the signals to her nerves become weakened as they pass through various “junction boxes” in the body. The news was shocking, but also a cause for hope: The disorder, caused by a genetic mutation, is treatable. Davis is participating in a clinical study of oral Albuterol, and also does physical therapy. She started showing results within a few days. She can raise her arms higher, doesn’t need to use her breathing machine for so many hours at night and can even take 60 to 80 steps. She hopes to be able to walk somebody, but “even if I stay where I’m at right now, I’m fine,” she said. She’ll wear a royal blue dress for the pageant’s formal wear competition, but the National American Miss pageant emphasizes inner-beauty, poise and presentation, not glamour. Davis hopes her own example will help open doors for, and inspire, other people with disabilities. “It’s nice to be able to impact people’s lives,” she said.

Miss Illinois Hannah Smith Visits Helen Keller Elementary School

Author:

Date Posted: 18:34:05 09/11/11 Sun

Hannah Smith, 20, stopped in at Helen Keller Elementary School to talk to students about Character Counts, a program used year-round. The Rockford-area resident said she woke up at 4:30 a.m. to make the drive and also planned to speak at John A. Bannes Elementary School. Wearing her Miss Illinois crown, sash and some very high heels, Smith told students a little about herself. She drew them in immediately when she projected a photo of her favorite cartoon character, Sponge Bob Square Pants, onto a screen in the auditorium. Next was a photo of the Chicago White Sox, her favorite baseball team; one of her dancing ballet, a life-long passion; and a photo from the July 2 Miss Illinois Pageant,when she won her crown. The third-, fourth- and fifth-graders did their best to keep quiet while she asked questions about the Character Counts program. “How many of you think you know what character is?” Smith asked. A flurry of hands went into the air as students shared their answers from, “It shows who you are” to “personality” to “characters in a movie.” She told the kids they can use the six pillars of the Character Counts program in school and at home every day by being good students, respecting their teachers and parents, being nice to their classmates and more. “You always want to make good choices because you never know who is watching you and looking up to you,” she said. The students promised to practice all six elements of the program–trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship–then they lined up to take photos with their new role model. Smith will make 300 appearances during her reign as Miss Illinois, talking with students and attending fundraisers for the Children’s Miracle Network, an organization she hopes to support by raising $10,000 for during the next year. Two months into her reign, Smith said she has undergone huge changes. She has delayed plans to major in dance performance and business at Northern Illinois University to take up her Miss Illinois duties. “I went from being a server at Red Robin, a dance instructor and a student to being Miss Illinois overnight,” Smith said. “So you can imagine the lifestyle changes on a daily basis being in different parts of the state.” Erin Duncan, school counselor at both Keller and Bannes, said Smith’s visit was a great way to get the kids excited about their character-building program and help them settle into the new school year. “She did a wonderful job,” Duncan said. “It was definitely age appropriate. She got them involved standing up and moving around and everything.” In between her regular duties as Miss Illinois, Smith said she’ll be preparing for the Miss America Pageant to be held in Las Vegas Jan. 14.

Miss Illinois Hannah Smith Visits Huntley American Legion

Author:
IN THE NEWS

Date Posted: 16:27:36 08/31/11 Wed

Hannah Smith of Huntley says along with the title of Miss Illinois came a completely new lifestyle that sometimes is challenging. Visiting the American Legion for Grafton Township's bimonthly bingo Tuesday, Smith shared her experiences with more than 150 seniors who had the opportunity to ask questions, share lunch and laughs with her, and learn a few basic dance steps. "My clothes were mostly my Red Robin uniform, my dance outfits, and my sweats," said Smith, a dance instructor who has 17 years of ballet experience. Now that she's Miss Illinois, sponsors provide her clothes, makeup, a vehicle, hair products, and image consulting. When one senior asked Smith her dress size, she declined to reveal it but said she's a healthy size at 5 feet 7 inches. "I was in absolute shock (when I won Miss Illinois)," said Smith, wearing a purple dress, her crown and beige shoes. "I'm in 4-inch heels," she said. "So, I'm cheating a little bit." For the talent competition of Miss Illinois, she performed a variation of Sugar Plum Fairy from The Nutcracker. She said her responsibilities as Miss Illinois prevent her from dancing as often as she would like these days, but in upcoming months she'll begin training again to perfect her ballet technique for the Miss America pageant, Jan. 14 in Las Vegas. The program wil be aired on ABC. She said she has met all 51 contestants for Miss America and that they all seem "like wonderful ladies." Smith said she enjoys speaking at her public appearances and for platforms including Special Olympics and Miracle Network. When she's not at an event, she's typically preparing for one, so she doesn't have a lot of downtime, she said. "My biggest challenge has been the lifestyle adjustment," Smith said of her travel schedule. "It's a lot of packing and unpacking and staying at hotels." After the Q&A, Smith taught volunteers a few basic dance positions and said she was happy to be experiencing that again. She said she is looking forward to the upcoming Miss America pageant and is ready for the hard work that will come with it, preparing for the week-long stay in Las Vegas. "I'm a little nervous," she said. "I'm eager too. I know it will be a challenge and I'm very excited."

Good Morning Macomb!!! (Or afternoon depending on when you read this!) This is my official debut back into the continuation of my health and fitness column! The last few weeks after Miss Illinois have been crazy with some much needing catching up, a great family vacation, work and preparation for my senior year at WIU. Miss Illinois was definitely the best overall experience I have had so far. The contestants were all so amazing and the connections you make are unbelievable. It amazes me to know there are so many talented, driven, and successful young women in our state who are all trying to better the lives of those in their communities and ultimately this wonderful state. If you did not get the chance to see my thank you to the community in the paper after the pageant…thank you. This community is remarkably supportive and without the help from local businesses and the community as a whole I would not have felt as loved and ready for the Miss Illinois competition as I did. Now I am ready to make the rest of this year as memorable as I can through involvement in the community and by hopefully touching the lives of children in this community with continued passion for my platform, “eCHANGE” –The Fight against Childhood Obesity and Inactivity. As a refresher my platform, “eCHANGE”, stands for Everyone Choosing Healthy Activities & Nutritional Goals Everyday. For this change to happen it takes a true lifestyle change and hopefully this can happen through numerous ideas I currently have. After working with several physical education classes at McDonough County schools this past school year, I hope to return with new ideas, new methods and more fun for the kids. I also am very interested in starting an after school program for children who do not have the opportunity to participate in organized sports or would rather do more straight forward physical activity. If anyone in the community has ideas for my programs and efforts or would like me to attend an event please contact me at mj-ervin@wiu.edu or my directors, Bob and Nancy Foote, at 2footes@macomb.comNow that I have a little more time on my hands I can put more energy into new workouts and ideas for this article and my blog. Before Miss Illinois I was often times typing in a moving vehicle or piecing information together whenever I could sit at the computer through out my busy days. I look forward to interview write ups about other fitness enthusiasts; along with workout and nutrition information.

Try this calorie scorching workout. This is a workout I came up with on one of my interval days. HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is a great way to quickly burn calories, rev up your metabolism and switch up your workout in a fun way. I do this type of workout quite often as a boost to my weekly regimen. This workout can be done at different levels. To get the most intense workout push yourself as hard as you can throughout the entire exercise plan. If you are just starting out in your fitness journey take it a little slower in between exercises or just go to “your maximal effort” –which varies from individual to individual.

Sprint Section
* Can be done on treadmill, track, or at a park either on the road or grass
* 1 min sprint (or whatever your fastest “held” pace is)
Rest 30 seconds
* 45 second sprint
* Rest 30 seconds
* 2 30 second sprints

Resistance Section
* 12 regular push ups (Can be modified to be easier on your knees.)
* 12 yoga push ups - keep your arms against your sides – elbows shoot straight back behind you as you lower down and push up - this variation works your triceps and abdominals more.
* Go into a plank hold – Elbows on ground and legs fully extended back behind you - HOLD 45 seconds
* Rest after “holding” only if need be!
* Next, while staying in the plank hold position, extend left leg out to side as far as you can and bring back in. This is like a standing leg lift but in plank position. Do this two times with each leg. 10-12 reps per leg (Leg never touches ground, keep it lifted. Also keep bottom and core down and held tight)
* Find a bench, chair, steps, or even the ground (if you keep bottom lifted) and do 12 slow and controlled tricep dips. Elbows should extend straight behind body, almost skimming your sides. When lowering go to a 90 degree angle then fully extend to a straight arm at the lifting phase when pushing up.

Repeat this entire sequence 3 times. If you are just starting out with your exercise efforts try 2 rounds and if you are advanced build on this to challenge yourself. Feel free to e mail me with diet and exercise questions or concerns about this program or in general. If there is something you would like to see published just let me know. I am open to suggestions

Driscoll Is Henry County’s First State Fair Queen

During the two weeks of the Illinois State Fair, Jackie Driscoll estimates she’s been photographed “millions” of times. Last January, the Cambridge woman was crowned the 2011 Miss Illinois County Fair Queen. As queen, Driscoll served as the official hostess of the 2011 Illinois State Fair. “People ask me if I’m sad the fair is almost over. In some ways, it seems like it only just started, but in other ways, it feels like it’s gone on forever,” said Driscoll on Aug. 19, one of the last days of the fair. “I’ve had so many good experiences,” she added. Driscoll, the 2010 Miss Henry County Fair Queen, was the first Henry County woman to win the state crown. As queen, Driscoll has spent her summer in the employ of the Illinois Department of Agriculture. She’s traveled throughout the state attending county fairs. During the two weeks of the Illinois State Fair, Driscoll lived in a trailer provided by the Department of Agriculture on the state fair grounds. In addition to being her home-away-from-home, the trailer provided Driscoll with refuge from the 90-degree heat. In between scheduled appearances, Driscoll would pop into the air-conditioned trailer to cool down and, in some cases, change clothes. “The trailer’s a bit of a mess, because there’s no closet, and I had to bring an entire queen’s wardrobe,” said Driscoll. Among other items, Driscoll brought 20 sundresses to the fair, enough for two a day, she said. She rationed her wardrobe over the course of the fair to ensure she never wore the same outfit twice. While most attend the state fair in blue jeans and comfy shoes, Driscoll traversed the event in high heels. “The trick to high heels at the state fair is to ride around in a golf cart,” she joked. A specially decorated “Queen Jackie” cart was used to transport Driscoll around the state fair grounds. Though Driscoll would oblige state fair attendees wanting a photo of her behind the wheel of her golf cart, most of the driving was left to Driscoll’s chaperone. “They didn’t want me worrying about driving the golf cart. My job is to wave,” explained Driscoll. For the entire two weeks of the fair, Driscoll was accompanied by chaperone Susan Shea. Shea, the director of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Division of Aeronautics, has devoted time each summer for the past nine years to escorting state queens. Jackie’s been a marvelous queen. She’s made your county proud,” said Shea. In addition to accompanying Driscoll during her time at the state fair, Shea was in charge of the queen’s official schedule. “Her day can start anywhere from 7:30 a.m. to noon, and she always worked until 6 p.m., but usually later. There were a lot of days she worked 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.,” explained Shea. Driscoll’s official duties ranged from presenting prizes to meeting grandstand performers to unveiling the 2011 butter cow. “My favorite activity was standing in the middle of the Coast Guard Silent Drill Team’s performance,” said Driscoll. “County Fair Day and Veterans’ Day also were high points,” she added. Driscoll said she also enjoyed meeting children at the fair; posing with many of them for photos. “I love the kids,” she said. “Meeting them is one of the best parts of being queen.” Though Driscoll also will serve as the officially hostess of the DuQuoin State Fair later this fall, immediately following the conclusion of the Illinois State Fair, she returned to classes at Monmouth College. A senior history major at the college, Driscoll is a 2008 graduate of Stark County High School.

Sheley is a senior at Geneseo High School and the daughter of Rich and Linda Sheley. The pageant is open to girls from neighboring counties. Sheley and her court will reign over the 156th Bureau County Fair Aug. 24-28 at the fairgrounds in Princeton. First runner-up was Tiana Maupin, 18, of Princeton. Special tributes were given to former queen and past pageant director Pam Ernat Veronda who died during the past year after a battle with breast cancer. Memories from two of the girls crowned queen while she was director, Jill Von Holten (2002) and Meredith Anderson (2003), were among those shared during the pageant. Veronda was Miss Bureau County Fair in 1986. A special guest at the pageant, 2011 Miss Illinois County Fair Jackie Driscoll of Cambridge, recalled that her great-aunt, Cleo Driscoll, was Miss Bureau County Fair in 1964. Crowned 2011 Junior Miss Bureau County Fair was Hailey Schultz, 13, of Princeton. First runner-up was Courtney Hadley, 14, also of Princeton. Second runner-up was Bailey Russell, 14, of Wyanet. Schultz also won the party dress (tie), best speech and People's Choice awards. Hadley tied Schultz for best party dress and tied Brianna Legner, 13, of Princeton, for the best interview award. Other awards went to Belen Ellsworth, 13, of Princeton, congeniality; and Mackenzie Ott, 14, of Dalzell, most photogenic. The 2011 Little Miss Bureau County Fair is Alexis Marquez, 7, of Wyanet. First runner-up is Courtney Baele, 8, of Mineral. Second runner-up is Lauren Wirth, 8, of Sheffield. There were 11 girls in the Junior Miss and 16 girls in the Little Miss pageants.
