For several years I have been commissioned to research families, places and events concerned with the city and town of Newburgh, NY. It has been an interesting project to see the place and talk or correspond with so many people there. It has also been educational in that I have come to learn a hate among people that in my many years of working in and with history of many places and people around the world never fails to impress.

Not claiming to be an expert on matters but after a few years of involvement with this town and its history I would like to recommend here that many residents are personally responsible for the decay and devastation that has taken a town that was once very rich in business to a place that boasts "open spaces" but is in reality a mere empty lot where so much American heritage once stood.

It should be none of my business what happens in and to this place. But so many of my inquiries have been met with such vile response that I'm compelled to publicly respond and reply for all to see and consider.

Too many times we bemoan our lot in life and fail to accept personal responsibility for our tribulations.

One message that has come across clearly and repeatedly over the course of my work and dealings with Newburgh and that is an obvious hatred of those who are willing to work toward improving the place and of those who have any interest in it other than bilking the land and people. Replies and responses to my inquiries have been more than simple proof of this and it obviously has done the place no good. What a shameful wasteland of closed minds and resistance to education.

Hopefully the people will over the course of years to come, be a more enlightened ilk. Newburgh NY was once an ambitious, energetic and productive town of great reputation. How sad to see and experience it currently.

Wishing the good people of Newburgh the strength and courage to persevere and turn the place back around to the time when it was respectable. It means a lot of work and tenacity, but what was can be again, with hope.

Thank you to all of you who have been so helpful when I contacted you. It has been a great pleasure not only for me but for those I work for. Good luck to all of you.
