I haven't been around Ryze in a while and I think it's time this page gets a little update. So it's 10 August 2006. Any wagers as to when I get finished LOL.

Thanks for visiting my little spot on the Ryze Network. I'm Gery, pictured above with Marsha, my bride of 27 years. Also pictured with us on a recent cruise are our children, the two main reasons we tried to spend as much time together as possible. I guess they've moved past the term "children" though.

Theresa enters college this fall with an eye on a career in medicine while Anthony is an aspiring firefighter and paramedic. Since he graduated from Kilgore College Firefighter Academy in March 2004, he is currently completing his Paramedic certification and works with a Fire Dept. in East Texas as an Emergency Medical Technician and Firefighter and was selected Rookie of the Year for 2005 by his Department. He also serves as the Departments Public Information Officer and works as an EMT part time for a couple of companies, one of which puts him right down on the race track at NASCAR and Indie events at Texas Motor Speedway.

Both have been active in sports and extra curriculars throughout school so any time we are all together at home, or anywhere for that matter, at the same time it is special. Now it looks like Marsha and I will have a little more time on our hands for ourselves. I won't call us "empty nesters" yet. As a matter of fact we'll probably need a revolving door for their coming and going.

You might wonder why I make note of that? Actually there are a couple of reasons. I've learned over the years that being able to work for yourself can afford you a lot of freedoms you wouldn't have while being an employee. I've been able to be there to coach my kids in sports, make that special presentation at school in the mid-morning or afternoon assembly, even stay up to the wee hours of the morning finishing, oops helping to finish, a science project without having to worry about dragging into work. The second is to show you something scores of folks don't always comprehend. My family isn't much different than your's or someone you know. There is no secret potion or talent to qualify for building your own busines. Maybe one I'll discuss later but it's one everyone is capable of performing.

I've done both. I'm currently back in someone's employ and it's a decision I don't necessarily regret but it's one I certainly am ready to change! The point is it's everyday people like you and I, sharing our talents and our resources that make up a huge cross section of our economy. Families like yours and mine recommend and promote products and services every day and don't get paid for it. Families like yours and mine help somebody out with an idea or a contact everyday never expecting to get paid for it. Both are forms of networking and as networkers we know that by being there for someone else when they need it, someone will be there for us when we need something. Meanwhile, if I'm going to promote a certain product that millions use or need to would I be wiser to do it for the man who is offering to pay me for bringing him business or the person who thanks me with a coupon for $1.00 off of my next 10# cat food purchase and I don't even own a cat?
