The FDA issued an alert in October 1996 about the potential for serious tendon injuries related to the use of these antimicrobial agents known as ciprofloxacin, enoxacin, norfloxacin, and ofloxacin. Tendonitis and rupture of the shoulder, hand and Achilles tendons requiring surgical repair have been reported. Some early symptoms include pain and inflammation.
