Each SJRA member is required to fund raise $200 worth of advertising for the association. That can be in the form of arena banners, flags, web ads or finals program books. Fees will be due in March - no exceptions.

We need a JR and a SR parent to assist with putting this book together. Ms. Richards has volunteered to help with the HS.

We need help keeping track of who has submitted their ads as well as help putting ads together therefore some computer skills are needed. I would be happy to discuss the role with anyone interested. My phone number is 813-907-9922 or email: patti@wwmp.net.

There are over 160 families in SJRA. If we have 1 or more volunteers from each division and divide the work up we can get this done very efficiently.

Thank you.

Patti

ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL CONTESTANTS THINKING ABOUT ATTENDING THE IFYRA AT SHAWNEE THIS SUMMER: This year I am 1 of 6 IFYRA Student Directors at Shawnee; I will be overseeing the Breakaway/Calf roping/Goat Tying arena. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. I will be happy to do my best to assist you. Also, please mark your calendars! April 1st the online entry will open! It is first come first serve! Barrels and poles will probably fill up rather quickly! Camping spots don't last long either! The online entry will be on <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://www.ifyr.com">http://www.ifyr.com</a> They have worked hard to design a fresh new look to their website and hopefully it will be glitch free this year! I would also like to encourage anyone interested in leadership roles to consider running for one of the 6 IFYRA Director positions for next year. It is a great experience and you will get to meet a lot of wonderful and important people in and out of the rodeo arena. It will be a lot of hard work because you will be expected to work every performance in your arena the following year but it will be well worth it! If interested, please message me and I can tell you more about it. 352-812-1553

Since it seems to have been over looked, I'd like to take a second to thank Wanda Chandler for what she did for Sjra's scholarship fund at our January Rodeo. She worked for weeks, baking little works of art, and did not take her expenses out. She raised over $500. It may not be a lot in some people's eyes, but it's $500 more that we didn't previously have. She stayed until the bitter end on that very cold day. And thanks, Patrice Parker, for helping her sell. We all enjoy her baking so much at the rodeos.

URGENT...we need 2 more parents to help put the finals program book together. This will require the parent to help gather the ads from members and collect their payments. It will also require that they assist in putting program pages together for the book. We use either publisher or indesign to put the book together - pdf/jpg of each page is required for either program.

Ms. Richards from HS will be assisting.

We need a JR and SR parent to volunteer to help.

Please contact Patti Ciaccio if you are interested. 813-695-3942 or patti@wwmp.net

Below are links to my website where I have posted photos from each rodeo (I didn't take a lot of photos until recently so I don't have but a few from the Grand Oaks and Live Oak rodeos). These photos are yours to have and you can either download them directly from my site or purchase a copy (AT COST) through SmugMug (great printing quality). I enjoy taking photos and the kids love having them too! All of the photos are also posted on my Facebook page (Alysha Strickland Henning) so feel free to tag yourself and others there as well. You can also download them from Facebook but when photos are uploaded to that site they are automatically compressed (decreased quality/color).

If you do not want a photo of your child/family member posted on the website or Facebook please just let me know which photo it is and I will gladly remove it.

Thanks so much and enjoy the photos!

First thank you to the contestants for not only braving the cold but also for being ready to go when your number was called.

Second thank you for all the fast and efficient help in the arena we were able to complete the rodeo two hours faster than we normally do ending at 937pm.

This will become the new normal ..... We will run our rodeos in the same efficient manner with a high sense of urgency as we did Saturday.

I will follow up with an email to the entire membership however I want to make something clear. As I stated anything that happens during the rodeo in the arena will be handled by the Arena Directors and or Judges. Any questions or concerns outside the arena and or in between rodeos Will be handled by myself. We have children at age 5 up to adults at age 18 and as long as I am in my position I will look to the safety and welfare of the kids as a whole regardless of the inconvienience to the parents. My one regret yesterday was stopping the rodeo to have a meeting against my better judgement but if doing so woke everyone up then I guess good came out of it If you have questions or concerns email me prior to the rodeo , if you look for answers any other way you may get conflicting information causing even more confusion.

Thank you. Bob Smith the arena and grounds were great!!!!!

If anyone needs their horses worked on Saturday at the rodeo I will be there all day long. I will have the Magna wave with me and can do it. $50/horse It can make your horse feel and work to its potential. Text/Call me 904-669-6188

Magna Wave PEMF (Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field) Therapy is widely used in conditioning of people, athletes, small animals, and race, performance and pleasure horses around the world. The therapy serves to help regenerate damaged or diseased tissue, repair tendons and fractured bones.

It enhances the synthesis of protein in the cells, which allows the body to take full advantage of all the protein available. Circulation is improved, not by increasing heartbeat or blood pressure, but by opening and dilating the arteries and capillaries. During treatment the Lymphatic system is stimulated to clean damaged areas and detoxify the body.

Magna Wave PEMF therapy also increases blood oxygen at the cellular level. Studies have shown that oxygen partial pressure can be increased by as much as 200%. The improved blood flow, increased blood oxygen and lymphatic cleansing reduce pain and inflammation, buildup of lactic acid and improve the overall healing capabilities.

Magna Wave PEMF, because of its deep penetration is particularly effective in relieving deep muscle soreness. The therapy is noninvasive, and no medication is required as a pretreatment for therapy.

We will not be having rodeo rags at Smitty's per request of Mr. Bob. But with Christmas coming it is a good time to clean out your closets for rodeo rags. I will be taking in donations of clothes this weekend and in Jan. We will start selling again in Feb and I hope to have a lot of new clothes to sell. Remember it all goes to the scholarship fund.

Below is a link for photos I took at the Nicholls rodeo. I am not a professional by any means but I do enjoy taking photos and sharing them with you all. Some photos are better than others but I didn't want to use a flash in case it startled a horse...so it was light and settings only and I'm still on a learning curve where that is concerned!
Anyway, you can download these directly from my webpage or order them from SmugMug (no up-charge...it is at cost). These are also on my Facebook page (Alysha Strickland Henning) if you want to tag someone (there are many kids I don't know).
Thanks and please let me know if you have any problems downloading (email is the best contact - ahenning@tds.net)

I would like to start by asking for your prayers for the Thomas family. Mr. John's mom passed away this week and I am sure this great family could use a lift.

What a great venue (Nicholls) was for our November rodeo. So much so that we will be returning in February! We are aware that the ground was not level in some places and hard below the surface. Improvements will be done in time for our February date which will include replacement of all burnt out lights, ground laser leveled by county staff and ground ripped, tilled and prepped so that it is barrel/pole ready. I would like to thank the Thomas and West families for overseeing this process.

Thank you for cleaning up prior to leaving the grounds looked great.

Gas tickets are due at Smittys , they are mandatory so please get them in so we don't have to charge you the $100 fee because we really don't want to but will. This is for all divisions no exceptions!

Student workers are a requirement. Please check in with arena director Eddie Brennan prior to your event starting. We will not chase you down and you will work or you face disciplinary action. This requirement is necessary in order for the rodeo to move along. If a parent is going to substitute for a contestant they too have to notify Eddie so credit is given to the child.

Please remember Smitty's is the perfect Christmas shopping place so bring your check book, credit card or cold cash.

As I mentioned we are excited to welcome Janie McManus to the SJRA Marketing team. She will be at the December Rodeo so please say Hi and give her any sponsorship leads you may have. This does not negate your sponsorship requirements however she is here to assist you if needed.

Kids you are nearing the halfway point in the season and the races are close. Practice hard in the arena and study hard in the classroom. HS Juniors and Seniors remember your scholarship packets...please contact the Parker,s with any questions.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving

Pat

If you are just looking for a hook up, I found a nearby state park (equine friendly but no stalls): <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://gastateparks.org/GeneralCoffee">http://gastateparks.org/GeneralCoffee</a>

We have a lot of interest in stalls and hook ups. Is anyone close by this arena that can go take a look at how many actual stalls they have. And, how many actual hook ups they have - and limited hook ups.

There is a big difference between 50 and 60 and I just want everyone to be prepared for what they have asked for.

If there are only 50 stalls - I have them filled for Friday. And, almost filled on Saturday. If there are 60 I can accommodate more people.

Thanks. If you could please let me know by email that would be great.

Subject: YEAR END AWARDS

Author:
Pat Ciaccio
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 23:05:49 10/10/13 Thu

I want to clear up any confusion regarding end of year awards.

The Junior and Senior division will conduct year end awards the same as years past with a prize committee chiard by Joy Papy and Beth Ann Thomas. So in short no change to the fantastic prizes.

The high school division will be as follows:

Top three in each event will receive the following awards:

1st place: saddle and prize money
2nd place: prize money
3rd place: prize money

All three award winners will also be eligible to travel to Shawnee OK as part of the SJRA team and receive additional travel money that will be collected through sponsorship and fund raising.

You DO NOT have to go to Shawnee to receive prize and prize money however you DO have to be a member of the SJRA team to receive the travel money. If you decline going to Shawnee or go as a member of another team then you will forfeit the travel money which will then be distributed to the fourth place person.

If you are confused and need further clarification please email me or speak to me at Octobers rodeo.

Thank you

REPORT CARDS

REPORT CARDS ARE DUE NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER RODEO so if you get them earlier I strongly suggest you email it to our report card secretary.

I you unfortunately did not have the required 2.0 to begin the season then you must turn in your first quarter report card prior to rodeo. Most school districts will give report cards prior to Octobers rodeo so if you get your school sealed report card prior to October call in then get it to the report card secretary so you can be reinstated.

ONLY A SEALED REPORT CARD WILL BE ACCEPTED

Thank you

I was contacted this weekend by the assistant rodeo coach at Troy University who asked for the names and grades of all our HS members so that they may monitor progress. We have sent the information to her along with making her aware that SJRA will have a team competing in Shaunee.

I have long said that the competion at SJRA is some of the finest and one month into the addition of a HS division we are already being contacted by a major rodeo school.

Congratulations!

With our first month in the books we can all exhale a bit as we all get comfortable.
Let me start by saying our prayers are with all the young women and men who took a few bumps and brusies this weekend, all the news sounds favorable. I special thank you to our three medical voulenteers who did an outstanding job. I ask that you please refrain from giving any medical attention which will allow our staff professionals to keep our kids safe.

I covered a few points in the general membership meeting and then reviewed them again at Sat night and Sun performencces however I will outline them again.

Please check the website and chat at leat once a week as we will have up to the minute updates.
Please read your rule book as rules change from age division to age division.

If you have any questions email me and I will get back to you in a timely manner.

If you do those three things and follow what you read then you will have a wonderful experience.

Thank you to all the vouleenteers I saw many familiar faces in the areana however was thrilled to see many many new faces. A special thank you to our arena directors Eddie and Wyatt, the birdhouse gang and team collect, raise and distribute money....all of whom worked a full week this weekend...this organization runs because of the tiredless effort of the voulenteers so thank you and to those who are on the fence ...do it it is fun!

Please realize that decisions are made in the best interest of the organization and the orginization ranges in age, demograhics and financial means so please think big picture before you criticize.

Please note the new times.....they are on the home page!!!!

Please note that we split SR BREAKAWAY into a boys and girls division based on our directors meetings...Thank you Jodi for reminding me....we need to keep those numbers over 10 all year so lets find more SR Breakaway contestants.

Kids you did well....we all can tell how hard you worked this summer...I am proud of the way you competed however I most proud of the fine young women and men you are. You represent this organization well.

Parents thank you for all the "thank you's " this weekend..I know it was not perfect however the executive board takes their roles personal and we will strive to tweek things each month to make the organization better.

Thank you all again it was a blast

See you in October!

Anyone notice that the order of go for HS on Saturday is mostly descending order alphabetically and was not randomly shuffled. I feel sorry for the Victoria girl because this puts her first to go in nearly all of her events. You may want to take a look at this and fix it. Just saying...Sunday looks like it was done correctly.

Please advise that if you have to stay overnight and do not have such accommodations as and RV or Living-quarters, are you "required" to rent the rooms at the facility or is a tent allowed.

We entered online and do not recall mandating that we have stalls or have to stay the night. We did not plan on staying the night and this creates a significant financial burden to pay for 3, 4 horses to haul in when we dont need stalls. Also, never have I had to leave my original coggins anywhere before. That should always remain with the horse. I have no problem providing a copy for them to keep or show them my originals and there is no reason that is not sufficient. Please correct me if I am misinterpreting what I have read.

All Members...

Please check the home page for Know Before You Go Information. During call-in you told the number of stalls you needed. Stall assignments will be posted next Thursday. A map of the facility has also been posted. Please do not call Grand Oaks regarding your assignments.

Grand Oaks is a large equine resort. They are directing us to enter a specific entrance for easy access to parking for large/tall vehicles. So, please check the Know Before You Go Information for the proper entrance.

When you arrive at the entrance gate, you will be greeted by a Grand Oak representative who will direct you to the proper parking space and stall area. They will need a hard copy of your cog gins (they will retain this copy). And, a liability waiver needs to be signed for all person in the vehicle.

Run orders will be posted by next Thursday.

Thank you...

I hope that everyone had a great summer. The excitement is growing as we are just a few weeks from our first rodeo of the season and the unveiling of the high school division. I welcome those families that are new and welcome back those that have supported SJRA throughout the years. The board has worked hard this summer to refine the rules, enhance the fund raising effort and develop new committees which will allow for a fun and safe environment for all. We will have a general membership meeting on Saturday the 14th at 830am please be timely so we can get the rodeo started on time. also please remember that the first call in will be two weeks in advance MONDAY SEPTEMBER 2nd, please see website for details.
