Dear Julia,
I completely agree with your opinion about Brazil's current president and the poor. All the poor know about President Lula are the programs he has for them, but the programs don't seem to be a lot of help. The people living in poverty have only received a little help from Lula, but to the poor a little help is better than no help. I feel this is the only reason why Lula is still able to run in the current election.
I was not aware that Fernando Henrique Cardoso created the help for the poor citizens in Brazil. It seems the only reason Lula followed up with these social programs is because Lula knew he would get extra votes from the lower class. With the knowledge form the scandals he was involved in and the social programs he did not create, it is quite obvious that Lula is a deceiving man. I don’t think he really wants to do good for Brazil or for the poor.
Lula is able to deceive the poor in this way because the poor do not have access to the media. I don not think the poor are fully aware about the various scandals Lula was involved in or that Lula did not create the help for them. The continuing of the social programs for the poor is just a way to receive more votes.
