Subject: Brazilian Elections

Since before politics formally existed, it has been riddled with scandals and back-alley dealings of all sorts. Scandals are unstoppable in a world as large and free as politics, in fact, I would go as far as to say that there have been very few major political figures that acquired all of their fundings or rose to their respective positions through completely legitimate means. Therefore, for the world to focus on the dealings of one man and how he came into power instead of focusing on what he has done for his governing area while in power is ill-advised and even immature. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has done great things for his country in the right areas. One of the country’s major problems is the large population of desperately poor people living there. He has done great things to support families in those areas, such as the Family Allowance plan or even the failed Zero Hunger plan. One universal indicator of a good political figure is one that focuses in on the country’s biggest wounds, and does everything in his power to heal them while maintaining stability in the rest of the country, and Silva does that. In light of that fact, and the fact that the everyday Brazilian seems to have forgiven Silva or at least justified his scandals with what he’s done for the country, I think that whether the Brazilian higher ups like it or not, Silva is going to be their president for 4 years more.
