Subject: Abuse

There were many questions about whether or not what is happening to some teens is considered abuse. This was really upsetting to read about teens getting hit to the point where they bruise, being called nasty names, and being threatened everyday, and still not thinking this is really considered abuse. I understand that the main reason they did not want to tell people was because they did not want to ruin their family. They must first understand that it is NOT him or her who is ruining their family; it is the parent who is doing the abusing. If the teen does not tell another adult or the police, the matter will keep ruining their family and will get out of control. Second, it is not worth the abuse to try to keep the family together because eventually the family will be broken up, it is just a matter of time.
No child deserves to be treated like that by anyone, especially a parent. As hard as it may be, they must tell someone. Even if it is not the police right away, another adult should be aware of the issue because an adult who cares will protect them in a way that makes the child feel comfortable. Child abuse is a very serious matter, and when a child is so brainwashed that they do not think being hit everyday is child abuse, that is very upsetting. My advice to any child being hurt, threatened, or verbally abused by a parent or any adult for that matter is to tell police, a school counselor, an aunt or uncle, or another adult. Do not put it off and act like it is nothing to try to keep the family together. It is NOT worth it.
