It’s more than money, it’s political corruption

New Straits Times

No more "money politics". Vote-buying in elections is now "political corruption" under a stricter code of ethics to be adopted by Umno.

"Political corruption is clearer. Money politics is more toned down. And this isn’t just about money," party vice-president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin told the New Straits Times. "There’s money, favours, logging concessions, promises — many things, not just cash."

Muhyiddin, the head of the constitutional committee in charge of the code’s revision, said he would propose to the supreme council that "political corruption" be included in the revised code and enforced before the party election.

The revised code will have a detailed list of do’s and don’ts.

"The original code was clear on what was meant by ‘money politics’, but some members felt that it spelt out the don’ts more than the do’s," Muhyiddin said.

"They thought it was not helpful in guiding members on what they could do and how to avoid practices not in consonance with the Code of Ethics and the party constitution.

"So my committee held many meetings (to refine the code). I think this one particular matter took us a long time."

Muhyiddin said there would be many detailed examples on how contributions given at various levels to fund party activities must be processed and recorded.

The disciplinary board, which has come under criticism by some members, has also been strengthened.

A new investigations panel has been set up to process and look into complaints of vote buying.

To curb slander, those who lodge baseless complaints of vote buying will also be hauled up by the board.

Now that it has been termed political corruption, everything would be resolved.
The problem was there in the first place because UMNO members were confused of the term "money politics".

This is a joke is it??????? No matter how many rules and regulations there are it makes no difference if the enforcer themselves are corrupted. Muhyiddin, Najib, ABB and the whole gang bang should know. This is just a show. Have they run out of ideas.

Anyone want to bet that this is going to change things? Corruption is corruption however it is packaged. Things are not going to change when so much is at stake. Only those who are not in the inner circle will bear the brunt of this so-called rule change. Those in the inner circle will always be protected no matter what they do.

The only thing you can be sure will change is the Terminology....So in future those that get the previous terminology applied..they will be excused as that no longer is a sin.

As someone who is considered new in Malaysian politics, I have seen, read and heard enough stories to now understand how our politician works.

It may sound un-patriotic to most Malaysian in this blog, but this is what I think they are doing.

I think all these manbo-jambo about LKY's comment and now this "money politics" thing is geared up for next General Election.

Ground work has been laid and planned, and I must say, as much as we think the two leaders (Pak Lah and Tun M), they are exactly alike in strategic planning on their moves.

By publicising the abolishment of "money-politics" and condemning LKY's comments, work wonders for those who is not worldly enough to pick up the anything between the lines.

I am really eager to see how each moves from Pak Lah is being used as an ammo by TDM and how each TDM's comment is being used to the benefit of Pak Lah.

With Pak Lah pledging his ignorance of what's happening, the game is definitely favouring him. Let's see how much more spins being brought out within the next 3-6months.

Yet, seems like everyone has forgoten about the hoo-hah of Pak Lah's blatant lies on TV and all those other allegations and the so called booklet that is supposed to be published to prove the innocence of today's adminstration.

Convenient and very well planned approach.

Let's talk generally, not for Malaysia but the whole world.

Favours - what is the thing that we use to create the favour? Isn't it $$$?

Promises - When we promise the world to the Rakyat, what is the reason? It is for power. Why do want the power for? Isn't it for $$$? Whether the Promise is Broken or Done, does not matter...

Concessions - Well, Isn't this obvious for $$$?

---------------------

Aiya, What a spin around for the Rakyat... We have heard them many times. By right MONEY OR CORRUPTION POLITICS IS NOT PERMISSIBLE in any country. Why do they have to revise the code? Isn't it existingly there all along?

---------------------

Whether it is corruption politics, Money politics, "Ugut"/Threaten politics (Scare tactic), Racial politics, Racist politics .. We have heard it all for 50 years already... Enough is enough..

---------------------

Ermm, wonder who dealt with the Piracy of DVD/VCD last time yeah? What actually happened, yeah?

why dont just he step down and become a totally independent 'political corruption' watchdog head of committee.

dont think he will becoz of all the perks he has been enjoying all
the while legally or illegally regardless..

if he is really saviour of the malays he should come out rather than going after the coorupt people while he still sits on the 'moneychair'

A bribe by any other name will stink just as high to heaven.

And where bribes abound and are practised, justice and fairness will always be perverted. They will get their just desserts when the Lord moves, then they will know the Lord, He is God.
