Nigeria to Criminalize Gay Sex and Marriage - April 2006
Nigerian same-sex couples who marry would face five years in prison under legislation being considered by the government. A similar sentence would be handed out to anyone who officiates or attends at a gay wedding. The legislation would also make it a crime to stage a protest in favor of LGBT civil rights or to set up an organization advocating gay rights.

Dutch Official Moves to Deport Gay Iranians - March 2006
The Dutch minister of immigration, Rita Verdonk, is recommending the end of a moratorium on the deportation of gay asylum seekers from Iran. Last year Verdonk halted extraditions of gays to Iran in the wake of reports two gay teens were hanged after being found found "guilty of homosexuality".

California Oral Sex Law Overturned - March 2006
California's justices overturned state law requiring adults 21 years or older who are convicted of having oral sex with 16- and 17-year-olds to automatically register as a sex offender for life.

Singapore Censors Okay Brokeback Mountain - March 2006
"Brokeback Mountain" was passed in its entirety by Singapore's film censorship board. Homosexuality is illegal in Singapore. The law defines gay sex as "an act of gross indecency" punishable by a caning and up to two years in prison. The censor board in a statement said that it approved the movie because it did not "promote or glamorize the lifestyle".

UAE Jail 26 People for 5 Years for Attending a 'Gay Wedding' - March 2006
Eleven of twenty-six men arrested at what police in the United Arab Emirates called a "gay wedding" have been sentenced each to five years in prison. The 15 others were acquitted but are still being held until the government decides whether to have them retried. The men were charged with homosexuality, a crime under Sharia law, although police acknowledged that non of the men were engaged in a sexual act when police raided the event.

Zimbabwe's Mugabe Threatens to Arrest Pro-Gay Clergy - March 2006
Zimbabwe's strongman Robert Mugabe in a rambling speech denounced the West and gays in particular. Mugabe told the cheering throng that same-sex marriage is a threat to mankind and condemned churches that bless gay unions. He said his government would jail and clergy who performed a blessing ceremony for gay couples in Zimbabwe.

U.S. Aligns with Iran to Keep Gays Out of the U.N. - February 2006
The United States joined with four of the world's most repressive regimes to reject an application by two international LGBT groups seeking to join a UN agency that advises the world body on economics and social issues. The application by the International Lesbian and Gay Association and the Danish Association of Gays and Lesbians was dismissed without a hearing.

U.S., Canada Round Up Gays in Afghanistan - February 2006
Four years after the end of the brutal excesses of the Taliban government, Afghan authorities supported by the U.S.-led coalition, including Canada, are still jailing teenagers convicted of homosexuality and women accused of adultery, eloping or running away from their husbands.

Oklahoma Anti-Gay Pastor Arrested for Soliciting a Male Police Officer - February 2006
The American Civil Liberties Union told an Oklahoma city judge that a pastor who frequently speaks out against homosexuality and was arrested last week for propositioning a male police officer was charged in violation of the Supreme Court's ruling on gay sex.

Cameroon Newspapers Engage in Gay Witchhunt of Public Officials. Two Jailed for Libel - February 2006
A court in the Cameroon capital of Yaounde sentenced a newspaper publisher to four months in prison for defaming a government minister whose name was one of 50 alleged gays in the country.

Indian Court Orders Reconsideration of Gay Sex Ban - February 2006
India's Supreme Court ordered a new trial in a challenge to the country's laws against sodomy. Last year the Delhi High Court upheld the sodomy law dismissing a petition by the Naz Foundation, an LGBT rights organization seeking a judicial review of the law.

Iran Tortures and Hangs two Teenagers for Gay Sex - July, 2005
