Subject: New Local

I am thinking of starting a new local to give an additional opportunity to young ladies to get to state. I do not know where to begin when it comes to sponsors. How do most other locals work it? Do they get repeat sponsorships from area businesses? Do they hold fundraisers? What types of fundraisers do well? What if you are an open local instead of closed? Then sponsors are harder to get and fundraisers seem to be the way to go. Car washes are out of the question in winter. What else have you seen done that brought in a lot of money? I know some locals hold bingos but those are usually pretty established already and a night or two of proceeds are donated to the local. Any other ideas?

[> I have seen fundraisers where they sell items, like roses, candy, pies, pizzas. Also the little girl pageants raise money for the big girl pageants. Ticket sales generate a lot of the costs of holding a pageant and with just one or two other fundraisers, you can raise all the money you need. -- Local Director, 20:01:29 10/30/06 Mon [1]

[> Silent auctions always work well and you can raise a lot of money with them. Also, hold an event where people can bring their gently used pageant items to sell, and charge a booth fee for each display area. You can also sell things outright at the event. -- More ideas., 19:54:43 10/31/06 Tue [1]

[> [> Most of the income comes from ticket sales to the pageant. You do not have to get nearly as much money as you think from sponsors. -- One small fundraiser each year would be enough., 19:53:00 11/09/06 Thu [1]
