Subject: I agree. If you're trying to bring numbers back up, opens are the way to go. They are quick, easy, and don't require a lot of preparation. Sponsors are difficult to get, but fundraisers can take care of that.

In response to the last poster, I think it really depends on what type of local you're having. If it's closed, you're more than likely dealing with a lot of first time contestants, so an earlier pageant date is more desireable.
