The '87's were centerbolt valve covers, 8-bolt intakes, and 1 piece rear main, correct? I thought the same thing when I saw the roller lifter retainer, but then again, the Vortec designation lies in the head design. Watch out with flywheels/flexplates as the bolt circles differ from the pre-'87 engines. My only suggestion on the post-'86 engines would be to go ahead and convert from the stock o-ring valve stem seals and buy an after-market set of umbrella caps. The o-rings start to leak around 60-75k. Just my $0.02.
