Connor O’Brien reaches Quarterfinals of National Radio Contest

Cleveland, May 5—Singer/songwriter Connor O'Brien's single, "Ready To Fall," has been chosen by Sony Entertainment and Premiere Radio Networks to be one of seven quarterfinalists in the national Radio Star contest. The contest, which began March 19 and will end May 30, is broadcast on more than 400 radio stations nationwide.

Connor will be interviewed on the Valentine morning show, from the studios of Cleveland's Kiss-FM 96.5 radio, this Thursday, May 6. His song and his interview will be broadcast nationwide, and radio listeners will be asked to vote for their favorite quarterfinalist. Connor will be competing for one of seven "semi-finalist" slots nationwide. The final competition will be broadcast nationally on the weekend of May 29.

Dan Mason, Program Director for Kiss-FM, was the person who submitted Connor ’s song for consideration. "I knew two years ago that Connor O'Brien was one of the best local musicians I had seen during my 4-1/2 years in Cleveland,” he said. “I am excited that Epic Records heard the potential that we heard when we listened to his Radio Star demo. On behalf of 96.5 Kiss FM, I can say that we will do our best to rally our listeners to vote for Connor as he advances into the next round and moves one step closer to living the dream."

Radio Star is the brainchild of Premiere Radio Networks, a Clear Channel division, Sony Music and Clear Channel Radio. Winterfresh gum later joined the promotion as Radio Star’s exclusive national sponsor. The Radio Star grand prize is a one-way ticket to fame. Waiting at the end of the contest for the winner is a Sony Music recording contract. Clear Channel will kick in a $50,000 bonus for a celebrity wardrobe and makeover. The winner will also appear as an opening act in two live Clear Channel radio station concerts in New York and Los Angeles, and receive a management contract from the William Morris Agency. There are also prizes for the runner ups, including demo deals with Sony Music.

There isn’t much Connor O’Brien can’t do. Since releasing his sophomore record, Soliloquy, in November 2002, Connor has appeared on the cover of Scene Magazine and played a few tour dates with the likes of Huey Lewis, the Bacon Brothers, and Mariah Carey. He was featured on a History Channel show called Shifting Gears, and was recently nominated for Best Singer/songwriter in the Cleveland Free Times Music Awards. O’Brien was also chosen for the role of Chris in the play Miss Saigon, directed by Scott Spence, which will be showing at the Beck Center for the Arts in Lakewood this summer.

Though his music has evolved over the years, Connor honed his performance skills by touring the country after attending the prestigious Eastman School of Music in New York. The training armed him with a voice that can move
mountains and a powerful stage presence, and gave him the makings of a young rock musician that has already developed a gritty maturity. O’Brien’s performances have included the Hollywood Knights Celebrity Basketball Tournament in Los Angeles, and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Along with
his backing band, he has drawn comparisons to Sugar Ray, Matchbox 20 and the Goo Goo Dolls.
