LIARS will release their new album, They Were Wrong So We Drowned on February 24, 2004 through Mute. The album was recorded by David Sitek (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio). This is the follow up to They Threw Us in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top; a striking debut from one of the most talked about bands recently.

The new album explores themes of witchcraft, folklore, mayhem and paranoia, exemplified by the songs “Broken Witch,” “There’s Always Room on the Broom,” “They Don’t Want Your Corn, They Want Your Kids” and “Hold Hands and it Will Happen Anyway.” LIARS recently played these new songs at an unannounced packed show (with TV on the Radio, Young People) at the Knitting Factory on Sept. 27, 2003. The tribal beats and visceral energy unleashed elicited an almost ritualistic reaction from the crowd. They responded by surrendering themselves to mere instinct and impulse in a truly primeval manner, dancing, jolting, and flailing under the beguiling spell of the new songs. Known for their frenzied live performances, LIARS have headlined their own national tour as well as have played with Sonic Youth, John Spencer Blues Explosion and Yeah Yeah Yeahs who they are currently touring with in Australia.

LIARS were featured on the cover of New York Magazine and have been featured as one of the best bands from New York City in Rolling Stone, Spin, Billboard, New York Times, New York Post, Alternative Press, Magnet, Paper, The Fader, Time Out New York, Vice, and Flyer. MTV2 and Much Music championed the video for “Mr Your On Fire Mr” from the Trench album and the band guest hosted MTV2’s 120 Minutes last year.

LIARS’ debut album was played nationwide on commercial specialty show radio, charting in the top three spots on the following charts: Radio & Records, Hits, The Network and Friday Morning Quarterback. In all, LIARS have garnered airplay on over 60 influential radio stations including KROQ & KCRW/Los Angeles, WXRK/New York, WXRT/Chicago, WBCN & WFNX/Boston, WHFS/Washington, DC, 91X/San Diego, KKND/Seattle and KPNT/St. Louis.

They Threw Us in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top debuted on Soundscan’s Alternative New Artist Album Chart, The Network’s Indie 100 Album Sales Chart as well as CMJ’s Retail Chart.
