CANADIANS LINE UP BEAUTIFULLY FOR LIGHTFOOT
Bruce Cockburn, Cowboy Junkies, and Ron Sexsmith contribute to the
premiere star-studded salute to Gordon Lightfoot

TORONTO, ON - Two Canadian labels, NorthernBlues
Music, (www.northernblues.com) and Borealis (www.borealisrecords.com),
are combining forces to release Beautiful: A Tribute to Gordon Lightfoot.
Featuring a stable of North America’s most popular artists, each produced
and recorded their own interpretations of some of Lightfoot’s biggest hits.
Due October 7, the 15-track disc will be available in Canada, United States,
and several overseas markets.

Highlights include the opener, "The Way I Feel," performed by Cowboy Junkies.
Bruce Cockburn delivers a stirring rendition of "Ribbon of Darkness," a song
which topped the country charts when Marty Robbins recorded it. The Tragically
Hip recreate "Black Day In July," and Ron Sexsmith, who once stood in line to
get Lightfoot’s autograph, performs "Drifters." Also contributing is Jesse
Winchester on "Sundown," a number one album and single for Lightfoot in the
early 70's, and Connie Kaldor doing "If You Could Read My Mind," another
number one. The CD closes with a simple salute, "Lightfoot" which is sung
by Aengus Finnan representing the new generation of Canadian songwriters
who regard Lightfoot as a groundbreaking artist responsible for compositions
uniquely native, yet enduring and enormously popular all over the world.

Beautiful is the first multi-artist tribute to Lightfoot and honors his astonishing
catalogue of songs which are still available on nearly 20 different recordings.
Executive-produced by Colin Linden, it will include a 20-page booklet. A series
of events is being planned to coincide with the release in early October.
Distribution is by Festival in Canada and by Big Daddy in the United States.
