1st ANNUAL NADA SILENT NIGHT WILL BENEFIT DES MOINES
Music group joins local sponsors to benefit Toys for Tots and
Blank Children’s Hospital

DES MOINES, IA-October 3, 2003-Des Moines rock band, The Nadas
headline the 1st ever Nada Silent Night concert to benefit the Marine
Corps' "Toys For Tots" program and Blank Children's Hospital. The event
is scheduled for Friday and Saturday November 28 & 29 at the landmark
Hoyt Sherman Place Theater (1501 Woodland Ave.). Tickets go on sale
Monday, October 6 and are priced at $25 in advance and $30 day of show.
Purchase at Hoyt Sherman box office, the Festival of Trees and Light at
Capital Square (November 23-27) or online via the following websites;
www.hoytsherman.org, www.theiowachannel.com, www.thenadas.com,
www.blankchildrens.org. Box office proceeds will be donated to the Blank
Children's Hospital. Concert attendees are required to bring a new, un-
openedtoy for an underprivileged child.

Conceived by Doc Williamson, the manager for The Nadas, the goal is to
raise funds and awareness for Des Moines' children in need. Steve Stephenson,
Medical Director for Blank remarks, "The Nadas' involvement is a spectacular
addition to our holiday fundraising efforts - not only because of the group's
popularity, but each of the band members is actively involved in the local
community through the Greater Des Moines Partnership as well as other
social organizations. These gentlemen are committed to helping raise a
significant amount of money forthe hospital with the intention that this year
be the first of many annual events. We could not have asked for more ideal
entertainment." Adds Jason Walsmith, co-vocalist and guitarist for The Nadas,
"We have a special affinity for the hospital because my wife gave birth to our
first child there last month."

The site is the legendary Hoyt Sherman Place Theater, which began under-
going renovations last summer. As the first public performance in the newly
renovated venue, Executive Director, Leisha Barcus comments, "We couldn't
be more excited to re-gift this theater to the community with such a worthwhile
event. It's exciting to be a part of helping the Toys for Tots drive and our neighbor,
Blank Children's Hospital. Nada Silent Night will really make Hoyt Sherman
Place come alive again." Other local sponsors already on board include KCCI-
TV 8, Wells Fargo, Iowa Realty, Cityview, KGGO-FM 94.9, and Fareway food
stores.

The Nadas are currently on tour in support of their new CD Transceiver, which
will be released nationally on October 21. Formed in the mid-90's the band has
previously released six recordings, sold more than 60,000 units and is considered
one of the most successful independent groups in the country. Comprised of Des
Moines natives Mike Butterworth (vocals, guitar), Jason Walsmith (vocals, guitar),
Jon Locker (bass), and Tony Bohnenkamp (drums, vocals) the foursome are on the
road all year long playing upwards of 200 shows annually.
