Cleveland, October 16Northeast Ohios resident pop star, Connor OBrien, has been busy writing and recording new material with his band, and now the rest of the nation will get to see what gets this young singer/songwriters motor running, literally.
Shifting Gears, hosted by Josh Hancock, is a hip, offbeat show on the History Channel that celebrates the everyday drivers love of the automobile. OBrien happens to be an auto enthusiast, and Tom Jennings, the director of Shifting Gears, is a native Clevelander who happened to catch one of OBriens recent performances and invited him to do a segment on the show. OBriens episode will air on Saturday, October 25 at 6:30 p.m. ET, and repeat on Sunday, October 26 at 11:30 p.m. ET and Sunday, October 27 at 3:30 a.m. ET.
OBriens segment is an auto makeover piece, in which he trades in his moms car for a new Chrysler Crossfire. The segment explores how an expensive new car can impact a persons life, if even for a few days. While focusing on OBrien and the car, the show will feature this up-and-coming musical artist and his band.
Since releasing his sophomore record, Soliloquy, in November 2002, Connor OBrien has appeared on the cover of Scene Magazine and played a few tour dates with the likes of Huey Lewis, the Bacon Brothers, and Mariah Carey. Though OBriens music has evolved over the years, he honed his performance skills by touring the country after attending the prestigious Eastman School of Music in New York. The training armed OBrien with a voice that can move mountains and a powerful stage presence, and gave him the makings of a pop/rock star that has already developed a gritty maturity.
OBriens performances have included the Hollywood Knights Celebrity Basketball Tournament in Los Angeles, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and as a finalist for ABC-TVs Making the Band. Along with his backing band, OBrien has drawn comparisons to Howie Day, Sugar Ray and John Mayer.
