I've done the baby oil thing, sans lighter fluid. After all, baby oil is just mineral oil that smells like babies :-) so I figured it would be a fine substitute. I always wondered, though, what part of the baby they use to make it smell like that....

but seriously, folks - the oil won't make them shiny, but it will make the colors pop. I put an old pair of white cotton socks over my hands when I do this chore. One to appy, and one to hold onto it while it is still slick (they can get away from you!). I keep them greasy on a towel for a while, to let it sort of seep in, maybe 30 minutes or so. Then I use a sock to buff the grease off.
