I think the main reason why "deals" were not available after Charley for lodging was because two huge providers of accomodations (South Seas & Sundial) as well as some smaller resorts didn't have rooms available for rent. Therefore demand met or exceeded supply. That made it easier for those who had rentals available to charge their typical rates. Had more accomodations been available, perhaps we would have seen some discounts.

My point was that when my business is hurting, I do offer incentives to keep old business and attract new business. Many people were hesitant to come to SW FLA after Charley and for good reason. Many people take just one vactaion a year, work hard for their dollar and want to make sure they are getting the most for it. I remember when I was there in April a shop owner was complaining to me how people were commenting on the devistation. He was telling me that Sanibel only had loss of vegitation and that people should go to Punta Gorda if they want to see real devistation. Out of respect I didn't respond to him, but what I was thinking was that the Sanibel and Captiva vegitation is something that brought tourist to the islands. It felt like going to the carribean rather than Florida. That was something people paid and traveled for. To be honest, that isn't there any longer. Its a sad reality but a fact of mother nature.

I think we all saw after Katrina that Charley was just a hiccup but none the less, it took its toll.

And yes, respect for one's thoughts and viewpoints is something I teach my children. I'm always disappointed when I come in contact with adults who don't exhibit those traits.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! The shells of Sanbiel are beautiful right now but so is our SNOW! :)

I'm sorry my post made you more angry. I'm sorry you
