It is very hot & humid, however if you spend the majority of your time at the beach with the breeze it's not too bad, I would suggest a large canvas beach umbrella as well, it drops the temp considerably. We bring a big rolling cooler filled for the day. The gulf can feel like bath water, so it's not as refreshing. Lots of suntan lotion as well.

There is also more risk of tropical storms, and sometime in June typically starts the rainy season, so you will see afternoon showers each day starting anywhere from 2-5 but most of the time it clears up afterwards and cools it off for dinner. If you start your day on the beach early the rains should not bother you much.

The Bike paths are asphalt and walking around the islands in general that time of year it's normally very hot and humid.

The other thing are the no-see-ums which are bad in the summer months, if you are aware of them and how to avoid it's not a big deal.

You can usually find a good rental price by waiting in the summer until close to your trip, if you can be a little flexible where you stay.
