During one of our trips to Sanibel the presceeding week had been very stormy. Penn shells were washed up everywhere on the beach. They are ugly, painful and with them trapped an abundance of algae or red tide or whatever and it absolutely ruined the beach! Luckily, the Captiva beaches were clean so we went to Captiva everyday. The Sanibel beach was only ok for walking maybe in the AM or PM but there was no way we'd want to hang out on the beach! It really was a shame.

When we go to Sanibel we always bring our water shoes. Some years we use them all the time and other years, not at all. It all depends on what is washing up.
