I was on Sanibel a couple of years ago during horrible red tide on Sanibel but the Captiva beaches were clear so we spent a lot of time there. Red tide can be horrible to very mild. Horrible means a terrible odor and mounds of ugly, smelly red seaweed type debris washed up on the beach. It can also be found floating in the water. Red tide comes and goes. It might not be bad by the time you get there.
