I knew that owners would definatley be upset, but it does not seem there are any renters on here that agree.

If your 60- 80 K per year- what is your percentage of rentals? how many weeks out of the year does it sit dormant?

I know FMV is different, but when you have only two weeks to get away and you can have all the same immenities for a much lower cost you take it.

Trust me, we make a day trip to the island cause we love it so much, but $$ talks to enjoy a relaxing time.

Now as far as shopping on Marco is concerned. You should try it. Groceries offered by Publix (2 locations) and Win Dixie on island. Off island less than 3 miles is Walmart superstore and another Publix. In comparision to Jerrys shopping well there is not one for price.

Restaurnts are very similiar in price if not lower for the family owned places. Many more outside dining experiences.

and it takes 45 minutes to 1 hour to get to just get onto Sanibel.

It is just over an hour to get to Marco.


but enough of the comparisions, I will state it again. I love Sanibel and Captiva, but I guess you are just pricing yourself out. I did a search for homes for vacation week in April just with royal shell and they have pages of rentals all open and it is only 3 months away. I have had to book in December for a home on Marco cause they are rented already.

I would just like to see the prices come down a bit. And you know as owners you could all do it if you wanted to with lower prices on cleaning, lawn care companies, and pool people. They know you charge high prices so they charge it to you.

Either way, I will never forget my heart on Captiva. I will always enjoy Jensens. I will have the crab cakes at RC otters. A beer at the Mucky Duck. And will wave to the island as I cross the causeway.

I am just sad that it had to come to this and the tiny island I loves so much for over 15 years is now no longer in my reach for a family vacation unless i want to stay in a hotel or low end condo.
