As an island resident as well as the owner of a rental property, I can tell you that summer rentals are down. Many summer renters come from the east coast to vacation. The cost of gas has had a marked impact on these individuals who in the past could afford lower rates on a vaction they were able to drive to.
Fall rentals are usally down as people are getting children back to school and the threat of hurricane season. I have watched this cycle for many years and can assure you that there is accuracy in what has been said.
