********************

JAG HEADQUARTERS

Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrggghhhhhhhhhh! Mac stormed from Harm' s office, secured her station as quickly as she could, grabbed her purse and marched out of JAG headquarters, all the while muttering under her breath.

"Of all the thick-headed, insensitive, cold-blooded, pig-headed, ignorant stuff Harm' s pulled in the past, this has to take the cake!"

If military protocol allowed for slamming doors, then everyone would have heard the door crash back on its hinges against the wall and then against its casing once again. However, someone was smart enough to have installed hinges that controlled the movement of the doors and slamming was virtually impossible.

Mac continued to sputter as she made her way to her car. It was bad enough she had to watch the stick with blonde poofy hair and painted lips make goofy eyes at him while she rubbed her hands across his chest as she muttered such intelligent things as, "ooh you have such presence on the screen." Or one of Mac' s personal favorites, "Oh, Harm, your voice is just right for film work."

What did she think he was going to do? Give up the Navy for voice over work or commercials? Not hardly! He was a sailor for goodness sake. It was his life. He would put his career over any woman even . . . her.

OUTSIDE JAG HEADQUARTERS

Whoa! Mac stopped in her tracks amazed she had admitted it even to herself. Petty Officer Coates was exiting the official car as Mac made the momentous realization.

"Colonel Mackenzie? Are you okay?"

"No. Yes. Sorry Jennifer, I just realized something . . . nothing important," she brushed it off with the younger woman.

"Can I make a guess Ma' am?"

"Not necessary. If anyone is looking for me I' ve gone home for the day."

"Yes Ma' am. I' ll let Commander Rabb know."

"Commander Rabb won' t care . . . he' s other wise involved at the moment."

"They still working on the promotional spot?" Jennifer asked, secretly pleased that she had been asked to do a spot as well regarding getting one' s life back on track.

"Yes. Enter at your own risk. I was about to go into sugar shock so I left." Mac made a face.

"That bad, huh. I know the commander tried getting out of the assignment. The admiral wouldn' t allow him to."

"Really? Well he seems to have changed his point of view," Mac snapped before unlocking her car and slipping inside while Coates watched and studied. Mac suddenly remembered that Coates was taking classes in psychology and was getting good at reading people. It was time to get out of there.

Jennifer Coates had heard about Renee from a number of people. She had never met the woman, but had been told that Dixie, the new director, was equally as bad - maybe even worse. She decided to get inside to watch how the commander handled this latest distraction in the rocky road to happiness that she knew he craved with the colonel. He had admitted as much to Mattie before she returned to live with her father, and over hot chocolate Mattie had shared with her.

JAG HEADQUARTERS

"Jennifer, have you seen Mac?" Harm asked as he spotted the petty officer on her way up the stairs.

"In her car. All done with the shoot today?"

"No . . . they want Mac. I' m supposed to catch her and bring her in," Harm explained.

"Don' t think she' ll agree to it. Her eyes were a bit green, sir."

"Green? No, Mac' s eyes are brown."

"Yes sir. My mistake," Jen snickered as she waved after Commander Rabb as he hurried after Mac. The poor man was clueless at times.

Thirty Minutes Later
Mac' s Apartment

Harm rang the bell as he worried his lip with his teeth as he often did when he was stressing over how what he was about to say would be taken. He knew what he meant, but sometimes people didn' t understand his intent and things would blow up in his face. He heard her stirring inside and waited.

On the way to Mac' s place he had finally understood what Jen had been trying to tell him. Mac was jealous of the blonde running the shoot. He had even thought she looked a little like Renee at first. He had brushed it off, his attention focused on his job until he was called to do his lines. He had hated the way Renee had made him read the lines just so a few years ago, and he disliked it just as much this time. Maybe more. This director, Heidi, Hilary, heather . . . something like that . . . had her hands all over him. He didn' t care for that at all. He wasn' t interested, and her unwanted attention made him uneasy. Probably why he was having trouble delivering the simple lines she wanted him to say and make them ring true.

Harm knocked again. "Mac, I know you' re in there. They need you back at Headquarters."

Slowly the door opened. Mac was still seething, and her glare cut him to the bone. His carefully planned spiel went right out the window. Instead he grinned and played it cool.

"Penny for your thoughts, Mac."

"You' re stupid, and that' s on the house." Mac swung the door shut with a bang which she couldn' t do back at JAG, just for the satisfaction of it.

"Mac, come on. I think we need to talk." Harm slowly remembered the things he had been planning to say. "Look, the Admiral wants you back there so they can get you in the final shot as well. And just for the record, Heidi doesn' t interest me in the least." He waited.

Slowly the door opened once again. Some of the steam had gone out of Mac. "Her name was Hilda."

"Whatever. Are you going to ignore a direct order?"
"You know I can' t. You might as well come in while I get my uniform back on." Mac let Harm in as she stepped back from the door. Harm noticed that she was wearing her comfort sweats and was barefooted.

"I' ll drive when you' re ready, and then maybe we can get a bite to eat afterwards . . . just the two of us."

"Maybe . . . I' m still mad at you," Mac called as she closed the door between her bedroom and the living room where Harm waited.

"Why are you mad at me Mac? I haven' t done anything."

"Exactly. You could have told her to keep her hands off you."

Harm grinned. Mac was jealous and he loved it. For once she was letting him see how she really felt about him. "Bring a change of clothes, Mac. You can change at JAG before we go out. I' m making reservations for dinner."

"I haven' t said I' ll go with you," Mac called, reminding him that she liked a say in the plans.

"Where would you like to go?"

Harm waited for her to respond. He could hear her moving around.

"Mac?"

The door opened and Mac was once again dressed in her uniform, this time carrying an overnight bag with her.

"I don' t care where you make reservations . . . but you' re right . . . we need to talk." Mac brushed past him turning off the light as she went.

Harm followed her to his car, opening the door for her to climb in. As she slid into the seat he leaned in after her, crowding her space. "Just remember, Mac. I wasn' t the one doing the touching and feeling. She did that."

"You could have told her hands off," Mac reminded him.

"I wasn' t sure it mattered to you," Harm whispered very close to her ear.

"It matters, Harm . . . it matters."

"Good . . . it matters to me too. Let' s go and make sure Ms. Director knows that I' m not available."

"Too bad we' re in uniform, or there wouldn' t be any doubt," Mac grinned.

Later
Rabb Residence - North of Union Station

Mac' s hands were all over his chest, and her lips followed as she showed him what she had wanted to do and feared the lady director would get the chance to do with Harm before she could stake her claim.

"You know, Mac, you could have clued me in what you were thinking about before you did it tonight."

"Uh-uh . . . it would have lost the spontaneity." Mac actually giggled against his chest as she continued to taste and touch every inch of his chest and abdomen.

"Mac, I can' t take much more of this," Harm pleaded with her, twisting against the silk restraints she had used on his wrists. "I want to touch you, too."

"Not until I know that you' re in as much pain as I was today watching her touch you."

"Mac! I didn' t react like this to her touch."

"Good thing, Mister." Finally Mac released the silk ties she had wrapped around his wrists behind him, letting them slither to the floor unheeded.

It was time for her to feel his touch now, just as it was time for them to admit that they were as committed to each other as any married couple. It was that realization that made it okay for Mac to allow their relationship to focus on the physical and chemistry between them. She whispered the words to Harm that would seal their fate forever. "I love you . . . and that' s on the house too."
