Subject: Habits

Since I left SSH I've been noticing little habits I had created that surrounded my drinking habit. I park about 2 blocks away from the building I work in. As I finished working after my first day back on the job, I started almost a speed walk back to my car, and as I was doing this walk the muscles in my neck and shoulders were tensing up. I realized at about a block away from my car that I was just in the throes of an old habit. So, I relaxed and took it a little easier. When I had been drinking I was in such a hurry to get all the things done I needed to during the day so I could get to that bottle of booze quicker.
But, because I wasn't actually having a craving for alcohol, I could stop myself in the middle of that walk and change that behavior.
It seems like such a "little" thing, but, I have noticed a lot of "little" behaviors like that. And they all add up.
It's nice to be able to notice those now though, before it all spirals and culminates in a drink, so I can use my energy more productively. It helps so much not having those cravings.
Please share stories. I would love to hear if anyone else is experiencing this too.
Nanette
