Subject: Grads enjoying their sobriety

Hear ye! Hear ye! SSH 80% success rate! Grads truly loving life!
That's what a town crier would be saying if we were living in a time without mass publication.
99.9999% of the grads I have the pleasure of keeping in touch with are truly enjoying their sobriety. We have created quite a few posts on the message board concerning relapse prevention. A lot of that info. comes from some of the 20% of grads who have, unfortunately, relapsed. They have, however, come back, and they have a lot to teach us about relapse prevention. I think this helps to add to the support we need. But, those grads who have not relapsed we can gain a lot from also.
What I notice most about grads who are successful and have never had a relapse- their never-ending positive attitudes, their willingness to take responsibility, with pleasure, for their lives, and their ability to learn from themselves and others. (And those who had relapsed and come back have found that too.)
There is a lot of laughter, and a lot of truly positive "vibes" eminating from them. Even from those who are faced with some very difficult circumstances. SO many smiles! in the face of adversity. It's incredible how light they seem. The need to be light and take in all the positive stuff they need is not lost on them. Another thing is, they are busy. They have so much going on professionally, personally, emotionally, intellectually. They have applied what they have learned at SSH to the rest of their lives, and are finding out they have enormous capacities for taking care of every aspect of their lives. It's something everyone has. The difference sometimes, is in just recognizing it, and then soaring away with it. They practice, moment by moment, turning to positive people, thoughts, and constructive habits, and dealing with negative aspects of their lives in a positive manner. They practice turning away from drugs and alcohol. They practice working on solutions to problems until they figure out what works for them. They pay attention to what works for others and try to think of how that might work for them. Eventually this becomes...shall I say, easy...and natural, until they have an all around positive, happy, even, joyful existence. It's inspiring.
What happens when you encounter an obviously successful person? or an obviously successful program? Hmmm...something to ponder.
