Subject: NMMA's Death

I am posting this message as historical information. There is some foul language, but is posted as history of the NMMA.

Carol,

I for one have read the two volumes of rule books as sent to me when I joined the NMMA. I understand from the rule books and from Joe's testimony in the PitStop, that drivers are held responsible and those who have read the rule books would think that Jodi Sullivan's behavior would not be tolerated in this family organization. Present and past members are upset with the thick rule books that the "NMMA" does not enforce properly. I believe that in the United States of America, the membership of any organization with rules such as the NMMA, has a right to expect the rules to be upheld and the elected leaders responsible and accountable. You believe it was settled in the "Kangaroo Court" and I do not. The present leadership, Pat at the helm, has allowed the NMMA to become a joke. This is a prime example.

I enjoyed our conversations at the banquet and during the final races of the Nationals as the Sullivan's were receiving their "Best Dressed Pit Crew" award. You seem like a very nice person and I am sorry we have a disagreement of what is acceptable at an NMMA sanctioned race and expected from the presiding officers. The banquet was a nice event with most not realizing the speakers were giving eulogizes at the NMMA's funeral and it was held in the banquet room of my almamater. Not one speaker expressed any ideas or visions of the future for the NMMA. Kyle and I joined as proud promoting members of the NMMA. I have fought this battle not only for Kyle, but also for what we thought the NMMA stood for. Now we set on the sidelines watching the organization die.

During the final race of the Nationals, I told Pat the NMMA has cancer. Now it is interesting to watch the cancerous leadership appear to have no clue how to get treatment for the organization as it argues over front wings.

I am
Doc Chuck.

I may not agree with what the Board did but they did hear it and it has been settled and should be dropped.

Hi Pat. Instead of me posting this to your wife's post on the NMMA website, I'd like to ask you to give it to her to read. Yes, the board dealt with Monte, though has never dealt with the issues of Jodi Sullivan. You and the other administrators of the NMMA have ignored the complaint of Jodi Sullivan and for me, Joe's article has reignited this fire.

As Carol has now become a public figure in this, please acknowledge to me that she has read this letter. I would love to hear her response to this letter of Ron Cox who witnessed this raged cussing.

Thank you.
Doc Chuck.

Subject: Incident at SIR on July 15, 2006

On July 15th I took my 14-year-old daughter, Natasha, who races in the restrictor class to SIR to race in the memorial race that was being held that day. Also presesnt for this race was Charles Neal along with his son Kyle, who races in the restrictor class, and Monte and Jodi Sullivan along with their son Stephen, who also races in the restrictor class. After the races were over Charles Neal claimed the Sullivan's motor which began a series of events which ultimately resulted in the Neal's card being pulled.

After the races I was in the tech shed along with the tech official, Charles Neal, a friend of Charles Neal, and Monte Sullivan. As the tech man was teching my motor Jodi Sullivan came to the door of the tech shed and began yelling at the tech official asking who he was, who told him to tech these motors, and that according to her he was not doing it right. The tech official, speaking in a respectful manner, asked Jodi to be quiet. At this point Monte Sullivan put himself between Jodi and the tech official. I was standing between the Sullivan's and the tech official. Monte Sullivan told the tech official to shut his mouth or he would shut it for him. After this incident the tech man and I went back to working on my motor, Charles Neal and his friend were working on removing his motor and Monte Sullivan should have been working on removing his motor. The Neal's and Sullivan's were removing their motors because the Neal's had claimed the Sullivan's motor and the Sullivan's chose to trade motors instead of taking the cash so they would not be left motorless. Monte Sullivan chose instead to go over to where the Neal's were working and got into the face of the friend of the Neal's, who was taking the headers off of the motor, and began yelling and using profanity. The friend of the Neal's responded to this aggression by using profanity. Monte Sullivan then went to get the referee and demanded that the Neal's card be pulled for life on the grounds that they had used profanity toward an official. The official being Monte Sullivan who is Region 2 Chairman. In his report to the referee Monte failed to mention his role in the incident and his own behavior towards an official.

After leaving the tech shed I took my car to my trailer and began loading my trailer. I noticed Jodi Sullivan storm by my trailer on her way to their trailer. There was a group of children including Kyle Neal, his cousin, Natasha, Kyle Austin and other children standing together at the Marshall's trailer. As Jodi Sullivan approached their trailer she began ranting, during her ranting fits she was using profanity, at and about Kyle Neal. She entered her trailer and continued her diatribe at and about Kyle Neal. She came out of their trailer and saw the children standing there. She then approached the children waving her arms around and yelling at and about Kyle Neal. Kyle Neal's cousin told Jodi Sullivan to leave his cousin alone that it is not his fault. This child did not use profanity when he spoke to this "adult". Jodi Sullivan then told Kyle Neal in front of this group of children that they were "fucking with the wrong people". I had been watching Jodi Sullivan's performance and when I heard what she said to these children I hollered for my daughter, Natasha, to come to our trailer. I felt the need to get her away from this woman w ho was so clearly out of control that she posed a danger to these children. I did not know how she would react if one of the children said anything to her. Jodi Sullivan then got into their golf cart and then reiterated to Kyle Neal, in the presence of the other children, that they were "fucking with the wrong people".

Another incident of the Sullivan's having control issues occurred at the feature races of the Illinois State Race. Monte Sullivan could not attend this race due to the fact that he was in Texas. Jodi Sullivan was there and was taking care of Stephen and the car. Also present at this race was Broderick Burke. Mr. Burke builds chassis and the Sullivan's run one of his cars. Mr. Burke was there to help anyone who needed help including those who run other chassis. If the Sullivan's wanted his help all Jodi had to do was ask. Mr. Burke was not helping Stephen but it did not appear that he needed help since Stephen was winning the race. During the course of the race Stephen made a mistake and did not end up winning the race. During the race Jodi was on the phone with Monte ranting about the race and what was going on. Monte Sullivan then phoned Broderick Burke and threatened him, apparently blaming him for Stephen losing the race. Broderick Burke has since severed his ties to the NMMA. This is not the kind of publicity or word of mouth that our struggling organization needs.

The NMMA wants to promote itself as a "family sport". In tolerating and protecting behavior such as this the national organization is failing. Are we going to do something about this out of control behavior before someone is hurt or are we going to wait until someone is hurt and then our organization will no longer exist. Racing is a passionate sport and tempers flare from time to time, it is human nature, but the Sullivan's have crossed the line of proper behavior on more than one occasion. This "family sport" has to decide if it is going to tolerate adults screaming, using profanity and threatening children. This behavior is tolerated by virtually no other sport. Jodi Sullivan would have at least been removed from the venue. She might have been banned for the season, for life, or arrested for criminal behavior. Monte Sullivlan wanted the Neal's card pulled for life because of the use of profanity towards an official. He conveniently leaves out his use of profanity towards the Neal's provoking the incident. He also becomes conveniently deaf when his wife is using profanity and threatening children. Shouldn't our officials be held to a higher standard of behavior? Should they not be setting the example for everyone else to follow? Do I think the Sullivan's card should be pulled for life? No. I think it should be pulled for a period of time and then given back for a probation period. Do I think they can control their behavior? No. If they could I wouldn't be writing this to you.
