Regrading your question, its all upto the paranoia of the webmaster. Generally, it should not go off with only 2 login attempts coming from different ip's (like the fake setting option). Imagine all the people who still are on dial-up. That'll be a big headache for the webmaster.

I have seen sites that are setup to ban logins based on 3 ip's for same login in 3 min. so 2 is also possible.

So yes, if thats how the site protection is set then Sentry fake prevention using another proxy will kill the pass as well.
