Subject: help with a seagate expandable drive problem

dear friends
please could I ask some advice from the experts
I have a sea-gate expandable drive the one that you use externally on your computer that needs no power supply
it has gone wrong when plugged into the computer it
shows a drive letter for it but if you try to click on
the drive letter it takes a long time to get up on the screen

when somthing comes up it tells you that the drive needs
to be formatted so you right click on the drive and it
cannot do anything it does not even show the size of the hard drive its as though somthing is blocking or jaming
the drive what I do know is that the drivers when using
the disk manager are ok but it seams to tell me the disk operating system is RAW

I understand that these expansion drives can be a problem and was wondering if anybody out there would know a programs that can get into the drive and put it back into the same as it was clean so it can be reinstalled on the computer fresh
meny thanks to you all
my operating system is windows xp sp2
