burning the files to disk means your backing up the files as files to a dvd so the files appear on the dvd as they do on the HD .....ie raw data files

if you burn it as an image file then the disk becomes whatever it is you have burned .... so a copy of nero 6 burned as image file will open as if to install the program when inserted into a dvd rom drive after burning
