well if thats the case then a direct dvd to dvd copy with dvd 9 (dual layer) should give you a better picture than if you compress it down to single layer disks

however

if you dont want all the crap such as extra languages and subtitles and behind the scenes stuff then taking them out should enable you to get a decent copy onto a single layer disk

btw if your downloading movies off the net and getting crap pictures you must be unlucky cos i used to do it your way but now all the stuff i get i get from newsgroups and 9 times out of 10 there the same quality as loaned ones (unless your downloading avis obviously)
