Welcome!
Here’s a board for you to ask judges their opinions, air your vents about judges, and find out what the judges are thinking.
Pretty much anything goes, just don’t bash children and only post initials if being used in a positive way.
Please try to avoid personal attacks. I don’t want this board to become a "We Hate _____" Board.
Have fun and let’t try to keep it clean and respect each other’s opinions. You may not like what someone else is saying, but they have a right to say it.

- Staying on Your Diet while Eating Out (gdes-311) -- Shahrukh, 17:40:51 09/01/09 Tue [1]
First of all, make a rough plan in advance about your choices of foods. This way you won't be confronted with the problem of deciding what to order when the waiter hands over the menu to you. If you are unfamiliar, give them a call or take a look at their website to see what their offerings are like. If there is not enough information, then ask somebody.
Never skip your meals earlier in the day simply because you are eating out in the evening. Skipping meals often causes you to consume more calories in the night, when your calorie requirement is actually low. All excess calories would end up being stored as body fat, because they are not going to compensate you for having skipped the afternoon meal or be saved to be used for your next day's requirement.
Have a proper lunch so that in the evening you won't pounce on and devour whatever comes to the table. To put your appetite under control, carry a piece of your favorite fruit and a handful of nuts to nibble on while on the way to the restaurant. You may even eat a small bowl of salad some half an hour before leaving for the restaurant.
Now, while at the restaurant, go for an 'a la carte' menu instead of eat-as-much-as-you-can buffets. Choose dishes with extra portions of vegetables and order smaller portions or split portions with friends. Ask about food preparation methods and key ingredients. Ask about lower calorie options, and find out how lenient they are about mixing and matching entrees to fit your individual needs.
Start your meal with a glass of plain water. Keep your hands off the bread plate, or the cracker basket. Ask the server to remove it, unless one of your group protests. Most people mistake their thirst for hunger and eat when they could have saved themselves from those calories with a glass of water. http://www.lampboosters.com/eating_out.html

- Eat out On diet (208761) -- M. Shoaib Asif, 21:12:05 04/25/09 Sat [1]
One of the most common problems people have with losing weight is pitfalls like eating out. Here are a few ways you can control how much you eat:As soon as your food is served, ask for a box and put half of your meal into it, to take home. Restaurant portions are usually twice the size they should be anyway. Don't ruin a nice, low fat salad with creamy dressing. Go for the vinaigrette or oil and vinegar, and use them sparingly.
Don't let yourself down by getting (or sharing) a dessert. Order some fruit or Jell-O instead, if you must have something sweet. Arrive with a healthy meal in mind and ask for it without opening your menu. This will spare you the pain of looking at an array of temptation. After each bite, put your fork down, and don't pick it up again until you've completely swallowed the last bite. visit: http://nikhar-e-arab.com/eatoutondiet.html

- How to speed up metabolism (ODD2226) -- Zeshan Habib, 11:07:49 04/11/09 Sat [1]
Don't skip breakfast. You will lose weight more quickly if you have a bite to eat in the morning. Drink hot water with lemon Eat hot meals rather than cold. Your metabolism speeds up very slightly when you eat and again if the food is hot. Do at least thirty minutes of cardiovascular exercise, five days a week. This will condition you to burn fat more efficiently. Don't deprive your body of carbohydrates, no matter what they say.
You need carbs for energy and will feel terrible without them. Wear a pedometer and see that you take 1,000 steps every day. If you have a sit-down job, get up every hour and walk around for five minutes or so. Dedicate two hours a week to weight training, concentrating on the larger muscles. Every other day is optimal. visit: http://nikhar-e-arab.com/spendupmetabolism.html

- Why stop on craving food (KDEM-1111) -- mudasser khalid, 07:53:55 04/11/09 Sat [1]
Craving chocolate? Eat a banana. It sometimes satisfies the yearning for chocolate and is much less fattening. Chew sugarless gum. It speeds up the digestive system, burning more calories, and sometimes kills a craving. Exercise! Your appetite will temporarily subside and you'll feel better about taking such a proactive approach. Still craving chocolate? Try a magnesium supplement. Many women are deficient in this mineral, which is found in chocolate. Craving fatty foods? Eat fish, or take a fish oil or flaxseed oil supplement. You may be low in essential fatty acids. Grab something to drink. Sometimes, cravings for food are really thirst in disguise. Sweet tooth? Protein, fat and fiber keep blood sugar levels more even and help keep such cravings under control. Watch your caffeine intake. Caffeine seems to make sugar cravings worse. If your will power weakens at night, try leaving the lights on until the minute you go to bed. Dimmed lights tend to lower inhibitions. Turn off the lights in your kitchen and avoid hanging out there. visit: http://nikhar-e-arab.com/stopfoodcraving.html

The world of beauty is a mad, funny, seductive world. Miss-guided in some ways, misleading in others, it's also a source of great pleasure to great many women. Good skin care-along with a healthy diet and exercise-is basic to beauty. So at least once, treat yourself to professional consolation and a facial, just to learn the ropes, along with some guidelines about best cosmetics and caring for your skin. We all have our own unique beauty that is natural to every woman. The way we feel about ourselves shines through to the outer image that we project. Explore the World of Beauty.

- Why stop on craving food (KADS-1415) -- Syed Taqiuddin, 10:18:58 02/18/09 Wed [1]
- How to speed up metabolism (ODD2226) -- Zeshan Habib, 06:11:40 02/12/09 Thu [1]

- Track For You (ODD2226) -- Zeshan Habib, 05:52:43 01/09/09 Fri [1]
Reward yourself regularly, (don't use food as a reward) buy a new outfit, get a new hair style, even if it's just a grin of approval in the mirror. Don't weigh yourself every day. Instead, get on the weight scales once a week to avoid discouragement.
Instead of obsessing over your weight, keep track of your waist measurement, body fat percentage or clothing size. Have 2 pieces of clothing to help you track your progress. ! that's way too tight and one that fits perfectly at the start of your diet. Try them on every 4 weeks. Create a small graph like the one below with one line that shows your weekly target progress and the other that shows your actual progress. Make your target progress very realistic, say 1lb a week so that you can easily exceed it and keep highly motivated.. visit: http://nikhar-e-arab.com/trackforyou.html

- Reduce Varicose Veins. (ODD2225) -- Anwar Ahmed Khan, 13:31:25 12/22/08 Mon [1]
Although varicose veins certainly lack popularity -- they are right down there with cellulite for the least desirable bodily attribute -- they are actually quite "popular" in that a great many people have them.Up to 30 million Americans have these ropey, bulging veins, usually on the legs. Women age 30 and older are most commonly affected, but no one is immune. Even Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones "can't get no satisfaction" -- he reportedly has calves crisscrossed by them. There are things you can do to reduce them:
Do regular exercise. Walking, running, cycling & swimming keep blood vessels healthy.
Stick to a high-fibre & low-salt diet. Kick off the high heels. Avoid tight-fitting clothings or undergarments that restrict blood flow at the waist, groin & legs (e.g. girdles, stockings & socks). If elastic stockings are recommended, wear them before getting out of bed in the morning. Don't leave legs crossed or bent for a long period. If work requires prolonged standing or sitting, move & stretch those legs, rotate ankles & wiggle the toes once in a while. Do leg stretching exercises daily. Raise legs above the level of the heart whenever possible. Rest those legs on pillows while sleeping. Stop smoking Although varicose veins aren't usually considered a significant health problem, they can make life miserable. "Varicose veins shouldn't be viewed as only a cosmetic concern," said Dr. Alan Hirsch, a specialist in vascular medicine at the University of Minnesota. Often, the discomfort over the veins' appearance is equalled by the aching pain they can cause, particularly after a long day of sitting or standing. In addition, the veins may signal a higher risk for other more serious blood vessel disorders. visit: http://www.nikhar-e-arab.com/varicoseveins.html

- Reduce Varicose Veins (kwsa-174) -- sohail, 23:01:23 12/16/08 Tue [1]

- Why stop on craving food. ODO2210) -- mehmood, 04:25:22 12/16/08 Tue [1]

Dd is going to do a small local pageant, dress evening gown. Would a tea length white eyelet flower girl dress qualify? Would a 9 yr. old wear one? What shoes would you wear with it?
Dd got a flower girl dress in April, fit awesome pageant Mid-May she had points deducted for dress too short---didn't realize until pageant weekend and by then....
She loves the directors of the pageant and was the Little Miss in this pageant when first starting pageants and would like to do the pageant again, now that she is eligible in different age division. However we can't afford to buy another gown quite yet, as she will need one for an August pageant. Would this white dress qualify??
Thanks

- Get rid of bed breath.(KDET-380) -- Tahir Ahmed, 20:58:46 11/25/08 Tue [1]
Bad breath (halitosis) is a common problem which often comes from the activity of bacteria in the mouth. Although there is no way of knowing for sure, most adults probably suffer from bad breath occasionally, with perhaps a quarter suffering on a regular basis. Bad breath is a sure-fire way to send potential suitors scrambling for the exits. Chances are, that yummy chicken you enjoyed at lunch is still hanging around in your mouth, which can cause less-than-pleasant-smelling bacteria to form, especially on your tongue. Our bad-breath weapon of choice is a tongue scraper, which some say resembles a medieval torture implement but is actually a disposable U-shaped plastic tool with tiny ridges on one side. It's very easy to use, and it will help clear away any leftover food and odor-causing bacteria that have settled on your tongue. Starting at the back of your mouth, gently drag the scraper along your tongue two or three times, rinsing it in between each pass. visit: http://nikhar-e-arab.com/badbreath.html

What is the dumbest comment you have ever gotten from a judge?
For example, I once saw a ten year old get the comment from a judge for swimsuit that she should have some props and put on more of a little show.
She's up there to model, not ENTERTAIN you! What do you want her to do sing and dance in her swimsuit?!

My personal opinion is I have ALWAYS hated it, trashy not classy imo, but it really bothers me on the under 12 kids (even sthough I dont' like it on anyone). I have always felt that you should color closest to your childs actual hair color, if you are a dark blonde, highlight etc.. I especially hate it in so called NATURAL pageants, IMO, I would probably deduct in natural, because it is not close to being natural.
Does anyone else out there feel like this?

I know i've seen a few banners with otr casualwears where there is alot of accessories added to the outfit in which i'm planning on doing. Only thing is the wording.

My dd has won several pageant photogenic, photogenic supremes scoring consistantly 9.8-10's, not all in same system. However when entered in photo contest she doesn't even place? What are judges looking at in photo contest that the pageant judges aren't? Why does she do so well in pageant photogenic and not in contest? She only has natural with NO retouching, NO makeup... I know that there are alot of you out there that this has happened to, but I got to vent anyway...! Okay so dd did a pageant this weekend that was a more natural pageant, we worked real hard getting her ready with a simpler walk and all that. So the day arrives and she goes to interview that morning and everything goes great, she gets on stage and again almost perfect... Crowning... uh huh the judges go for a little girl with no walk that stood on stage CHEWING her dress and SCRATCHING her head. I almost fell out.
But the icing on the cake was the score sheets... One judge said that she shouldnt even be doing Interview... She didnt even place. WTF? Please feel free to share your story it might make me feel better. And Judges feel free to share what you think might have happened.

- I think that is expecting a lot from a 2 year old. Dancing, wanting to be there and just having fun up there, yeah some kids that age can model, but IMO when they start looking too coached it doesn't earn extra points with me. I assume judges are told what the pageant system wants prior to a pageant? Dd did a recent pageant and it was swimsuit themed...her beauty scores were low, but dd isn't a tiny girl, not overweight just not stick skinny like most of the winners seemed to be, but no problem. The scores for beauty were consistent. HOWEVER the personality scores were weird, 0-10 scoring she scored a 10,6,8????? What would the judges be looking at?

What do you do when you enter a prelim and one of the side awards are not judged at all, and casualwear is supposedly judged but no one in any age divison is crowned the winner?
When questioning the director as to why there was no model winner in each age division and no casualwear winner, she admits that model was not even on the score card for the judges to judge, then throws out some off the wall scores for casualwear but yet did not announce a winner. What would you do or ask from the director to make it right, since the scoring of the entire pageant would be off and my daughter might have placed higher if them scores would have been added in the totals?

- Definetely something fishy there. Either the director is INCREDIBLY airheaded, or she's trying to pull something to pick her winners. You should name the pageant. And if I were you, I wouldn't go back! -- No name, 16:26:32 04/24/07 Tue
- It's a natural pageant fairly new to our state. This was only a prelim, but depending on the tittle you won you win fee's off or Overall Supreme wins free entry to the state pageant. That is my concern. Could we have possibly won fee's off or free entry to State? She offered money off state, or free entry to another prelim but when I told her we would take the free entry into another prelim for our chance to compete fairly for the tittles, she then tells me she will get basic entry free but has to pay for the 3 optionals she is offering at the pageant. I am like what the H***! You screwed up, not me or my daughter and I have not said a word to the other competors or on the boards just to be nice and give her a chance to fix it but now she says free entry but pay for OPIONALS!? What a cheapskate! (NT) -- OP, 08:10:51 04/25/07 Wed

- I have a question for judges -- No name, 10:21:17 02/10/07 Sat [10]
My daughter is seven now and it is still sometimes a problem but when she was younger it was really a problem...since we went through it I am sure some others do too.
My daughter is multiracial and has very very thick hair. When she does natural or low glitz pageants we would always do her hair in some sort of do where her hair was part up and part down. Not glitzy but still cute and together. We have often had problems with judges thinking that she is wearing a fall or even a pony when in reality it is all her natural hair.
Because of her hair type I can not leave all of it down. I can just pull up the sides and it still looks cute but even with that some judges have questioned it.
So my question is what have you seen work for children with very thick hair? What styles do you like on them that still looks natural?
