Anyway, one is brought up, cut and polished into a sphere about the size of a ping-pong ball, and our hands are bound over it by a third person. Specifically who that person is can vary- holy figures are common choices, though anyone with any magical power can also do well. Those chosen by house guardians have also been used- so my sister could do it if need be. Anyway, if the person doing the binding is not a mage, a mage will be present. A simple spell draws a drop of blood from the bride and grooms hands and places it into the crystal, which causes a reaction that turns the crystal bright red. Some pretty words are said during the minute or so that it takes this reaction to happen, the binding is removed, we go about our merry way.
