OK, my position on these issues I've made as clear as I can make it. In support of that position, I have not been shaved that I recall. I do that myself, and except for armpits (I'm a guy) and arms, I do everything I can reach from there downwards, myself. I've seen illustrations of what a human hair looks like, magnified 100x or so. I can see where any chemical attack my skin could survive--so might some pathogen lurking in those crooks & nannies. If some procedure I'm scheduled-for turns into a script for a new "ER" episode, I don't want one of THOSE to end up getting enclosed in an incision made in a hurry. So I go in, as bare and clean as I can make myself. I did it in '98 for umbilical hernia correction surgery. That went well, and I did not have any post-surgical infection.

Every relative or face-to-face friend I know, who's had any significant surgery from then until now--has suffered from at least one severe post-surgical infection event. I don't know that each person's own hair was the way the infection got in, but I don't know it WASN'T. The first article I read on hair as an agent of post-surgical infections was by some Navy Dentist during the Zumwalt Era, and he seemed very sure of his info. So I shave myself from armpits to ankles. I've found I prefer to keep myself that way, but it began with AFAIK a sound medical reason. And it would defeat the purpose if I presented a minefield of nicks and shaving-rash, so by staying in practice I can present a fair job of self-prepping, even if a need for surgical intervention were to come unannounced. I'd rather deal with the higher maintenance and never be in a situation of somebody having to decide between opening me up THROUGH the hair or taking the time to shave a site while I'm bleeding. I live where all the pickup-truck-Patricians have pretty-much a license to drive like NASCAR-fantasizing adolescents, so unanticipated surgical intervention isn't all that remote a possibility. I'm grateful that the way I am made, in body, in mind & in spirit--I find it pleasant to keep myself prepped.

I have only an approximate grasp of what goes on during a prostate biopsy. I was only present for mine, as far as trying to cooperate with my Ultrasound Tech, as she told me where she needed me to move. I recall pushing myself in that direction. Then I was back in a different room. People assure me that's the best way to experience a prostate biopsy and I'll take their word for it. Shaving *there* I do pretty-much by feel, so a touch-up may have been required, but no one mentioned it to me.

Allegedly there are places on the Internet where one may see stills and short video clips of actual procedures, but I have seen little evidence this is real. I'd hate to miss the show in which I'm the only so-&-so whose face isn't covered (wouldn't that make me the lead?) if it's out there, but so far I don't find it. So (among other things) I wouldn't know if my own shave job for any procedure was sufficient or not. Maybe some day I'll meet somebody who was there, after she's retired, and she will be in the mood to talk. If not--that's OK, too (just less interesting). Regards.
