Subject: psoriasis

I am male, a little over 50 years of age and have been suffering from psoriasis for a few years. Topical ointments have not helped much. My GP suggested UVB treatment so I attended my local hospital 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) for treatment. The first week I was greeted by a nurse (with a young female assistant) who entered my details on a computer. The computer adjusted the dose of uvb on each visit. It started at only a few seconds and increased on each visit. On the Friday of my second week I was feeling rather burnt. I told the young female assistant about this (the older nurse was missing) and she told me to go into the cubical and remove my clothes. I stripped off except for my undies and she came in to observe. She said I did look a bit red but I would have to remove my underpants as it was most important that my genitals not been over exposed. I said that I said that these parts had always been covered but she countered that it was very important that this area was checked. I complied. She told me that she was not sure and that she would get the staff nurse. The staff nurse said that I was a bit burnt and that she would reduce my UVB exposure time a little. She appeared to be quite surprised (raised eyebrows - startled expression) that I did not have my underpants on and reaffirmed that I had to be careful not to expose my genitals to UVB radiation and that I should put my undies on before entering the UVB light box.

The following week I arrived on Monday and was greeted by the older nurse alone. I asked about the young assistant to be told that she had gone back to school as she had finished her year 10 work experience. I thought about complaining for a second or so then I realised that I had exposed myself to a 14 or 15 year old girl. I realised that I had been conned and held my tongue!
