Subject: about Israel

ISRAEL: A Brief Historical Overview.

1. Israel became a nation two millennia before Islam was created.

2. After the exodus from Egypt and repossession of the land of their forefathers, Jews have continued to inhabit the Promised Land, surviving repeated invasions and partial expulsions, to maintain their own faith, language, and culture for over 3,500 years.

3. The only period of Arab rule over them followed the birth of Islam (in what is now Saudi Arabia) and the consequent Arab invasion of A.D. 635. Except for the Crusader period (A.D. 1095-1291), Muslim domination over the entire region continued until the end of World War I.

4. Jerusalem became the Jewish capital under David over 3,000 years ago and it remains the focus of the Jewish faith. It was never the capital of any Arab or Muslim entity. Even under (internationally illegitimate) Jordanian conquest and rule, 1948-1967, recognized only by Pakistan and Britain, Jordanian-occupied East Jerusalem was not made a Capital.

5. Jerusalem is mentioned over 700 times in the Bible but not once in the Qur'an.

6. Succeeding King David, his son Solomon built the Jewish temple in Jerusalem. Mohammed never set foot there. Mecca, Mohammed's hometown, is the focus of the world's Muslims.

7. Jews pray facing Jerusalem. Muslims turn towards Mecca.

8. In 1948, Arab leaders invading United Nations recreated Israel, urged Arab people to leave temporarily, promising to rid the area entirely of Jews. Some 630,000 Arabs left of their own free will (according to the U.N.) - most of them, it is said, without ever having seen an Israeli soldier.

9. In the same period, 900,000 Jews had to flee Muslim lands (virtually the entire Jewish population) to escape persecution, violence and pogroms against them.

10. Despite the vast territories at Arab disposal - 500 times the area of Israel - and the burgeoning oil wealth of the Arab League, Arab refugees were deliberately prevented from assimilating into their Arab host countries.

11. Of more than 100 million refugees worldwide following World War II, the Arabs of Palestine are the only group never to have been absorbed into countries sharing their culture and history.

They are also the only group that has a separate U.N. Relief and Aid body devoted to them alone. As a result they receive, per head, more international aid - even now - than any other people on earth - far more than the impoverished millions of refugees from the continual conflicts in Sudan, Nigeria, Uganda, North Africa and other authoritarian regimes in Africa and Asia.

By contrast, most of the surviving Jewish refugees from Europe, as well as from Arab Muslim lands were humanely settled in Israel, a country no larger than New Jersey.

12. There are 22 Arab Muslim countries (57 Muslim countries world-wide) but only one Jewish state.

13. Arabs initiated all five of the wars against Israel and failed to conquer it.

14. Local Arabs under Arafat began calling themselves 'Palestinians' only as recently as 1964, sixteen years after (modern) Israeli Statehood. The term had previously been used by people to designate Jews in the area. Hence, the Palestine Post (now Jerusalem Post), a Jewish newspaper; the Anglo-Palestine Bank (now Anglo-Israel Bank), a Jewish bank; the Palestine Brigade - Jews who fought alongside Britain in World War II, and many other examples.

15. During the Jordanian occupation - from 1948 - Jewish holy sites were desecrated, and denied to Jews. Since the Israeli liberation in 1967, all Muslim and Christian holy sites are accessible to all faiths.

16. The U.N. was silent when the Jordanians destroyed 58 synagogues in the Old City of Jerusalem. It stayed silent while Jordan systematically desecrated the ancient Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives, and it remained silent when Jordan enforced apartheid laws preventing Jews from accessing the Temple Mount and Western Wall.

17. At the Middle East Peace Summit held at Camp David on July 2000, Israel offered the Palestinian authority most of the 'West Bank' (Note: Muslims do not used the historical and biblical names, Judea and Samaris, place names that predate their invasion and occupation by thousands of years), all of Gaza and a share in the Jewish Capital, Jerusalem (Judaism's center), in exchange for peace. However, both the PLO Charter and Hamas Charter call for the destruction of the State of Israel. See here: http://www.palestinefacts.org/pf_1991to_now_plo_charter_revise.php

18. In the overwhelmingly anti-Israel biased United Nations, a survey (up to the year 1990) found that out of 175 Security Council resolutions an incredible 97 were against Israel. Out of 690 General Assembly resolutions, a full 429 were likewise directed against Israel.

19. The United Nations has enforced a long-standing policy under which Israel is the only member-country not permitted a turn on the Security Council. And it was the only State denied membership of its own regional group of nations.

20. For many years, too, Israel has been forbidden full membership of the International Red Cross and the right to use the Red Shield of David internationally, alongside the Red Cross and Red Crescent symbols.

This is despite the fact that Israel has regularly taken the lead in sending medical doctors, equipment and supplies to countries afflicted by natural disasters – the most recent being Hurricane Sandy on America's East Coast, when Israel was the ONLY country to rush supplies and assistance (eg., supplies of gas to hospitals, as well as food, batteries and generators to hurricane sufferers) to the victims of that terrible storm. See here: http://host.madison.com/ct/news/opinion/mailbag/ernie-pellegrino-media-ignore-israel-s-aid-to-hurricane-sandy/article_18e9ab04-02f6-52ae-802d-33425e9ec3cf.html

We all value truth and peace. We all deserve not to be deceived.
