Chovot HaLevavot, Shaar Avodat HaBitachon, Intro, page 360:

...he [a person with correct trust in G_d] views it
[his money] as a deposit that he was commanded to use in
specific ways and for specific purposes for a limited time.

If it stays with him a long time, he will not become
arrogant because of it [or sin rebelliously because of it]
and he will not remind the people who he was commanded
to donate to [the recipients of his kindness] about
his goodness [that he gave to them], and he will not
seek repayment or thanks or praise, [because he was
only doing his job by helping others].

Instead, he thanks his Creator for having made him
an agent [literally, cause] of kindness.

CHRONOLOGY:

Chovot HaLevavot was written around year 1040 of
the Common Era by Rabbi Bachya ben Yosef ibn Pakuda,
who lived in Saragossa, Spain.

Chovot HaLevavot was written in Arabic
and later translated into Hebrew.

Rabbi Lazer Brody (Breslov):

People think they can eat whatever they want
on Shabbat because it tastes good....
rich chocolate éclairs or colas and all kinds
of chemicals and all kinds of drinks.

Even on Shabbat, you are not allowed to
eat things that are detrimental to your body.

Thanking HASHEM for the Light and Warmth of the Sun

(an original short essay by the moderator
of the Derech Emet yahoo group)

I say this almost every day:

THANK YOU HASHEM for light and warmth of the sun.

This may seem strange to you, but consider the berachah
that we recite every morning before Shema:
Baruch Atah HASHEM Yotzair HaMeorot.

Without the light of the sun, we would all be in the dark;
we would not be able to see.

Without the light of the sun, all trees and plants would
soon die; we would not have any fruits or vegetables to eat.

Without the light of the sun, the earth would
soon become too cold to support life.

And if there were too much sunlight,
the earth would soon become too hot to support life.

We must THANK HASHEM for sending the
correct amount of sunlight to the earth,
so the earth is neither to cold nor too hot.

Most people find it easier to be happy when the sun
is shining; This is another reason to THANK HASHEM
for light and warmth of the sun.
