Date Posted: 10:00:05 08/30/10 Mon Hello every one! I tried to review the question and now you can see if it is OK, I hope so! Can work presented at conferences be published? What are the common publication genres? To divulge the material discussed in the conference it is importante publishing the work of a conference. By doing so, researchers, teachers and students have access to up-dated material, being an excellent source of research and knowledge. The conferences site we can find some publishing genres through which they publish their anual works presented in conferences, which normally contains selected papers from the previous year’s conference. One kind of publication genre which is very modern and reaches many people is the electronic type. “Academic publishing is undergoing major changes, transitioning from the print to the electronic format”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academic_publishing . TESOL (Teacher of English to speakears of other languages) has its press which releases about the convention. They put on their site (TESOL Resource Cebter) recorded sessions (audio and slides) from the annual conventions, they put the videos from conventions attendences on TESOL`S Youtube channel, and one can review and download slides and handouts from many presentations on the TESOL Convention SlideShare Page. A compendium is another useful genre – even though the digitalization of this type of material is taking place world wide – especially in areas where technology has not reached yet. They may provide a collection of papers presented at a conference, normally followed by a helpful index, supporting readers with tangible information about the discussed issues on a conference. There are also the Refereed-journal genre, which are very rich materials containing valid scientific information of utter relevance to researchers. With selected papers from previous conferences held by them. The EUROCALL has the ReCALL, a fully-refereed journal published by Cambridge Univeresity Press in behalf of EUROCALL. It is issued three times a year in January, May and September and is also available online to subscribers. It, as the other, normally contains selected papers from the previous year’s EUROCALL conference. “The journal contains articles relating to theoretical debate on language learning strategies and their influence on practical courseware design and integration, as well as regular software reviews.” , and The American Association for Applied Linguisticss have “The Modern Language Journal” the journal editors’ and Publishing in Academic Journals sessions at AAAL in Atlanta.
