1- In a conference, what is the role of “keynote speakers”, and who are invited to be keynote speakers?

According to the wikipedia, “the term Key Note comes from the practice of a cappella, often Barbershop singers, playing a note before singing. The note played determines that key in which the song will be performed, thus the term Key Note”.
This meaning emphasizes that the keynote speakers will be the person selected to raise interest in a particular event, such as a conference or large meeting sponsored by a corporation or association, to convince people about the subject he or she will talk about. You have a message to deliver and goals to reach that can only be done by people influencing other people who are responsible for the main topics to be discussed or presented on a conference or meeting.
A great keynote speaker should be able to communicate effectively with their audience and should be able to hold the attention of the audience for the duration of their keynote address.
Selecting a keynote speaker who is well known for his or her expertise in a particular field, or who has wide name recognition due to other accomplishments, will probably raise enthusiasm among prospective attendees for a meeting or conference and give more credibility to the organization or association.
Typically a keynote presenter speaks for anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes. Although many speakers are honored to attend the event and may earn publicity in their own right for their presentation, for larger or corporate sponosored events, an honorarium or speakers fee is generally paid.
Janette Racicot says that when your audience takes their seats they are far from focused. A great keynote speaker sets the tone for your meeting and creates an audience of a single mind. The right keynote can positively influence your audience for the entire event and beyond, when they return to the office.
Racicot also emphasizes that when you consider a speaker, be sure you understand how they book their dates, when they charge and what is included. If they offer a videotape, watch it. Be impressed with a long client list, especially if it includes repeat performances. If they agree to customize their speech for you, understand exactly what that means. Make sure they know who is introducing and following them. Most importantly, be clear about who will attend and how important this event is to your company.
