Subject: Whooooooooooa, Nelly! Time for some Prozac! LOL

Let's all chill. This isn't my board but I have to say it's getting a bit hostile in here.

I have questions just as many of you do about this, that, and the other. Schedules, formats for the classes not mentioned (Quick classes, possibly a high-roller style all run class, etc.) The BEST thing all racers can do at this point is sit back, relax, be patient, and let Dick, Rich, and Mitch tackle the task of getting the business up and running. Keep in mind that they've only had 4 evenings of activity on-track and two of those were without a working timing system. They have a huge mountain to climb with creating a basic business structure, fixing all the damage and neglect at the facility, AND building a racing/event program for the remainder of 2007. Last time I talked to Mitch I could see the level of stress he's under. At no point in any of my official positions with a track or a race series in the past had I ever been put in that situation and I can honestly say that I wouldn't want to be in his shoes (or Rich's or Dick's for that matter). I thrive on pressure but that may even be too much for me.

The two tracks I worked for (yes, Art...I am/was a track promoter in another life...lol)would build the budgets and schedules during the months of December and January each year. By the time we had our first event, there was little or no schedule adjustment to be made. Ditto for the track's racing programs (test and tunes, brackets, features, rentals, clubs, etc.). The rest of the season was used to build relationships with customers, sponsors, and fine-tune everything for a bigger and better next year. All track projects were carefully planned out and dealt with systematically. The folks at NSD are having to all of that at once. A daunting task indeed.

There seems to be some headway being made on the bracket program. That is a step in the right direction. As far as the rest of the programs and schedules are concerned I'm sure they are working dilligently to finalize those matters. I said a month ago that they've got a steep hill to climb and that will continue to be the case for the rest of 2007. While operating a drag racing facility isn't rocket science to those involved with the industry their entire lives, it's a new ballgame for the three principles at NSD.

That being said, the best thing for them at this point is for everyone to back off and let them learn how to operate THEIR business. Unless you've got a financial investment in the company or they seek you out individually for your services, let them manage the place and just be a happy, paying customer. Be thankful the track is actually open and not sitting dormant...or worse...being used for commercial property. NSD, in time, will be the venue we've all hoped it could be for over a decade. We've suffered through some gross mis-management in the past. I believe these guys are on the right track...just give them space and time to do the right things.

Or not. Continue flaming each other on the message boards and creating animosity between the racers. Would make for some interesting starting line games once the season starts...JUST KIDDING!!!!

My name is Wes Tarkington and I approve this message.
