Subject: Time for an indoor/covered drag strip!
In reply to: oh yea damn weather 's message, "this board is boring when there is nothing to bitch about" on 18:33:07 05/28/07 Mon

And North Star would be a perfect candidate. If one were to use the building technology used at West World (where the Barrett-Jackson is held in Arizona) which is the same technology used at the Indian reservation casinos (i.e., Winstar in OK) it would be very feasible to build an indoor drag racing facility...or cover an existing one. Those lightweight frame/flexible covering buildings take little more than strong footers to attach the inner frame...no foundations needed. They can be made tall enough to dissipate the sound and fumes. For an 1/8 mile drag strip like North Star the ends could be left open to provide ventilation. Track lighting can be hung directly over the racing surface. A light color could be used to allow natural light to illuminate the facility during the daylight hours.

The costs associated with those buildings are a fraction of a traditional steel/concrete "arenas". The design possibilities would allow a wide array of options to not only make it functional inside but unique from the outside.

Imagine the amount of additional business said track could bring in once weather is no long a factor. We could have two or three separate race seasons in one calendar year. The only limiting factor would be how cold the ground gets in the winter...but that, too, could be overcome.

I had too much time to think over the weekend after getting rained out four times.
