In reply to: both Are you saying dont let TNT run on a event night 's message, "Re: Were the oil-downs KOTH cars or test and tune cars?" on 12:31:03 04/03/07 Tue

That does answer one question regarding the diapers for big HP engines on nitrous, blowers, turbos, etc. KOTH doesn't call them out in their rules. Something to think about in the future.

As far as TNT cars during feature events...as a matter of opinion, NO, I do not believe any track that is selling $15 and $20 tickets to watch a cool heads-up feature show should include an open test and tune along with it. The biggest point was made for me in the fact that one or more test and tune car made a mess on the track. Those events are spectator-friendly shows, not racer/participant based events. There is a very clear difference. When promised an evening of exciting, heads-up drag racing a spectator isn't getting a good value by watching a hodge-podge of various cars just run time passes.

I am not advocating letting the track get cold, however, by not running anything along with the main attraction. A controlled set of supporting classes like indexes, quick brackets, match races between exciting cars, and other small categories would go great with a series like KOTH. Perhaps your car might fit into one of those scenarios?

A feature event like last Saturday's KOTH race needs to be run in a very timely manner. The ticket-buying spectators should have to spend no more than 4-5 hours watching the entire even unfold...from the first round of qualifying to the final. Adding an uncontrolled amount of test and tune cars increases the potential for the event to run way too long...and for many of the spectators that purchased $15-$20 tickets that means they don't get to see the end of the race. Like leaving an action-drama film 30 minutes from the climactic finish.

While I can appreciate the fact that you support the track week to week you must understand that a successful drag racing facility holds many types of events that cater to a wide array of fans and racers. If test and tune is your cup of tea most tracks hold such events every single week giving you plenty of chances to make passes.
